It is said to be for the sake of joy. There, the existence of the body does not depend on external factors. Although this is the case, the elements that exist in the realm of form that are beneficial are not the sensual pleasures of oral food, just as form, sound, and touch in the realm of form are virtues, but not sensual pleasures. The difference in touch that helps with this is also the same. In this way, joy is also called food there, because it is possible to fully enjoy it in the manner of oral food, so will it become oral food? Here, the food that is spoken of does not refer to the function of the four foods, but rather that enjoying happiness can last for a long time, like the gods of the clear light who enjoy happiness. Then, in the desire realm, whatever is swallowed from the mouth is oral food, and those who strive for that purpose are not? If you think so, then this statement is not established. Because in the realm of form, there is no swallowing at all, and oral food is in the desire realm, so there is no dispute about this. The birthplaces of smell, taste, and touch, in the desire realm, are cut into oral food with the nose and tongue, and then swallowed, so they are called oral food. If you say this, then there will be doubts about whether shadows and the like are also cut into oral food and swallowed, so the question is asked, how can the smell, taste, and touch that shadows, the sun, fire, and light have be food? This is because, in general, when elaborating in detail, the smell, taste, and touch that are enjoyed in the desire realm are mostly guided to that state when they are cut into oral food and swallowed, but those subtle oral foods, like bathing and body massage, are of the same kind, so they do not go beyond the category of food, so there is no contradiction. Others say: In the first kalpa, cutting and eating earth essence and the like, therefore that is also called oral food, because it is cut, so it is called oral food. Others say: pūrbānta bikalpeṣva syaiva bradhānyaṃ sutarām aśucendriya mahābhūtānugrahāya brabr̥ttirataḥ. prādhānyada yannirdeśa iti. Isn't the act of food done in order to appease hunger and thirst? If it is said to be different from this, then the senses...

Having expanded the great elements, this is the most important for the previous extremes of thought, therefore it enters in order to benefit the great elements of the first impurity, therefore it is said that the chief and others must be shown. It is said: dhyāyāma viśrama btsotsopa tsayam kṛtvānyebā rogā khyejighatsā bibāse tsa. (Tibetan) āhāro nānye āhāro hi shes rgyas par 'byung ste (Tibetan) (Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) Food is not other, indeed it is food. It appears extensively, between swallowing food, benefiting those whose senses are weakened and the great elements on which they depend, and making them grow. The form aggregate is at the time of swallowing, called the thought of swallowing, it is not fatigue, it is accumulation, having done the disease of hunger and thirst, food is not other, food is. At the time, food is when it is put in the mouth, and the fresh Manlava, and moistened with saliva, when it arises from swallowing, the senses of nose, tongue, and body, or, they hold odors, etc., therefore benefiting the great elements on which they depend, similarly, the form aggregate is not at the time of swallowing. The form aggregate is one's own sense, that is, what is the eye sense, or, its great elements, that is, what are the great elements on which the sense depends, if it does not benefit them, then the other senses, ear, etc., benefit, what need is there to say? Because it is not an object, called the object of those senses is form, etc. If at the time of swallowing, the form aggregate is not seen by the eye, and it benefits the eye sense, then at the time of food, seeing it will also benefit, therefore it is said extensively when seeing. Its object is to focus on the form being seen. Also at that time, also focusing on it, the touch that becomes the experience of happiness is food, not form, how is this understood? Therefore it is said extensively the non-returner and the arhat for the sake of liberation. Saying the non-returner is because they also are separated from desire from desire. Doing the action of food in the form seen is like the smell, taste, and touch being swallowed, it will also be so for the non-returners and arhats, it is said, a mouthful of food is in the hand.

Because it is in a container or bowl, it does not act as food. However, when it is put in the mouth, chewed by the teeth, moistened by saliva, swallowed, and the stomach is filled, these increase, and when it benefits the worms, it becomes the source of food, because it is said so, this is the meaning of acting as food. That is, all the boluses, when they are in the hand, etc., are called a mouthful of food by the name of what is about to happen. When food is functioning, only smell, taste, and touch get the name of food, because they become objects at that time. If color is also mentioned, if it is thought of in the same way as smell, etc., then sound, which is the nature of non-corresponding formations, also becomes food, because the end of the color source stays in the abdomen, so it can benefit. How is this to be known? Like smell, etc., because the respective abilities are seen, and at that time it should not be the consciousness of its object. It is temporarily established that only smell is food. Others say that color is not food, because it is not the object of the sense that holds after contact, like sound. The teacher Aryadeva says that whatever these gatherings eat is food, because it shows no difference. Because it is completely transformed from this, and from this the nature of essence, blood, and feces, etc. is accomplished, therefore it relies on the continuum, therefore, all these are food. It is said that only defiled things are food, and saying defiled here does not refer to smell, etc., because they are ultimately defiled. Saying that the meaning of food is to nourish existence, if those nourish existence? Because it can project the unprojected, and make the projected manifest, because it is the cause of not producing subsequent existence. Contact, thought, and consciousness, these undefiled ones are born to extinguish existence, because they are the antidote to existence. If it also increases the existence that has already been born, but other existence
