That which is said as "should not be said thus" should not be done at first. Then what should be done? These three dharmas, that which arises from relation, gathering, and collection, that is touch, should be done as the fifth. Or, this "by cause" etc., the gathering of the three causes of touch, is the meaning of saying it is called touch. The saying "relying on the sense faculty with obstruction" means that the eyes etc. obstruct the arising of other forms in their own objects, so they are with obstruction. Others say that it is because it relies on the sense faculty with obstruction, and because it is the object of the dharma that is solely with obstruction. The saying "verbal expression" means that the names such as Devadatta and Yajnadatta are non-mental formations, and that is the object of the sixth only, not the others. For the sake of clearly showing that, it is said that "this is the predominant object of this," in order to know that the sound called "sound" has no name other than sound. The saying "eye consciousness knows blue" means that it knows the self-nature of what is to be said. The saying "does not know as blue" means that it does not know by name, because eye consciousness is non-conceptual. Mind consciousness knows by both self-nature and name, because it is able to grasp the relationship between name and named. The saying "one is differentiated by the basis" is obstructive touch, because it relies on the sense faculty with obstruction. Others say that it is differentiated by basis and object. The saying "the second is differentiated by the object" is the touch of verbal expression, because it is predominantly the object of verbal expression. In "the power of words," one ascertains words through the gateway of words, and through conceptual thought, mind consciousness enters into meanings such as form, but not the five aggregates of consciousness, because they are non-conceptual. Also, in the power of words,

The so-called "knowing" refers to being proficient in the relationship between name and named through close demonstration, thereby understanding things like vases and cloths through consciousness. Therefore, only mental consciousness is a nominal designation. Some say that because it is used according to the power of the words that evoke it, only mental consciousness is a nominal designation. Secondly, "distinguished by correspondence" means that the nominal designation is mind, and the awareness that corresponds to it is the awareness of the nominal designation. Awareness and non-awareness are not corresponding, so this is a special distinction. The so-called "because it is in accordance with feeling and pleasure" means that because feeling follows pleasure, or because feeling generates pleasure. The same should be expressed for other things. Just as it becomes something that can be done or is able to be done, similarly, it also becomes something that can be experienced, or becomes something that can be experienced because it is able to be experienced. The so-called "these are the sixteen contacts" refers to the six contacts such as the contact arising from the aggregation of the eye, the two contacts of obstructive contact and nominal designation contact, the three of awareness, non-awareness and other awareness, the two contacts of harmful intent and following attachment, and the three of becoming experiencing pleasure and so on. Thus, all of them become sixteen. The determination and good distinction of contact have been explained. When it says "feeling should be explained," if someone asks: Feeling, that is, experience, hasn't feeling been explained before? The answer is, it is true that it has been explained, but there it was explained from the perspective of its own nature, not from the perspective of good distinction. But here it is intended to express the explanation from the perspective of good distinction, so there is no fault of repetition. Precisely for this reason, it is said that "the six feelings arising from this." If these feelings are briefly summarized, they can be classified into two types: bodily and mental. Precisely for this reason, it is said that "five of them are bodily." Even the mental ones are called bodily because they rely on the colored sense organs, because they are accumulated from minute particles, and because they rely on the body, so the word bodily can be used for the eye and other sense organs.
