Now, the word 'existing' just means existence itself. How can those close to the realm become without difference in meaning? In the phrase 'by one agent,' mentioning 'one' is to make it known that, for example, like 'Devadatta, having bathed, eats the sacrificial offering,' it is impossible to accomplish the previous action with the suffix 'ktvā' for different agents. As for 'in the previous time,' why? For example, like 'cooks, goes,' and similarly, 'having bathed, eats,' here it will never become 'having eaten, bathes,' in order to prevent accomplishing simultaneous actions and later times with the suffix 'ktvā.' Here, because there is no producer before arising, it is impossible for meeting and arising to have the same agent, so it is unreasonable to accomplish with the suffix 'ktvā.' Therefore, because arising occurs after meeting with conditions, the meaning of the phrase 'dependent arising' is unreasonable. To demonstrate this, 'having met previously' is stated in detail, so for the time being, since it is impossible to have the same agent, it is unreasonable to accomplish with the suffix 'ktvā.' Now, to show that it is impossible to accomplish with the suffix 'ktvā' because there is no action of the previous time, it is stated that 'without an agent, there is also no action,' without a goer, the action of going is not seen. What is said here is that the teacher himself composes a verse to summarize the refutation of the grammarians. If 'meeting before arising' is explained in detail about arising, it will be shown like this: if this temporarily meets with conditions before arising, then because it has not arisen, it is unreasonable to say 'meets,' because there is no unarisen one who emits or goes. If it is only at the time of arising that it meets with conditions, and not before? Even then, the suffix 'te' is not accomplished here. Why? Because it is done in the previous time, from two actions by one agent, the suffix 'te' is used for the previous time, but not for the same time. If it is a present tense, then, without arising, it can be in the present itself, like that.

If not, it would follow that there is no future. Therefore, the present is superior to the future in terms of being born, and to the past in terms of not ceasing. For that very reason, if it is not born, how can it be said to be present? However, the term 'born' is used in a broad sense, because it is through birth that one attains the nature of existence. For what purpose would this, which has already attained the nature of existence, be born again? There is no other thing that has not attained the nature of existence. Therefore, there is no rebirth from the born. If one were to be born again even after attaining self-nature, it would lead to an infinite regress. If the term 'future' is used in a broad sense, the future cannot be expressed by attaining self-nature, because it is non-existent, like something that does not exist at all. It is not reasonable to regard the non-existent as the agent of birth, nor is the act of birth without an agent reasonable. The term 'manifesting towards birth' is used to clarify the distant state of being born. If asked, 'When is this being born?' The answer is: 'In the moment when the causes and conditions for this come together, there is no obstacle, and it will be born immediately afterwards.' The term 'that very state' is used in a broad sense. Just as the state in which this is born after a certain state is called 'being born,' similarly, in that very state, it is said to 'meet' because the causes and conditions have come together as the reason. The very state of being born is also non-existent. If something were to meet first and then be born later, nothing would exist before birth. The term 'this is the very state of refutation' refers to the fact that other Sarvastivadins acknowledge that the future will be born. From another perspective, it is said that it will become that very state, just as birth comes from meeting. The term 'there is no dispute about conventions' means that for ultimate truth, there is no action or agent. The mere existence of a cause is because the cause becomes the cause for the existence of a result. For the perspective of the Abhidharma school, the faults mentioned above are impossible, because their existence means that some things that were previously born and unborn exist in themselves. If
