Regarding "from afflictions," whatever is existence and grasping in this life is said to be ignorance in the past. Therefore, the statement that ignorance arises from the root or afflictions is established. Afflictions also arise from the root. The statement "afflictions also arise from the root" refers to existence, like this, it is said that existence is conditioned by feeling. Aging and death also depend on feeling, because it is said that "between feeling is aging and death." Therefore, the statement "in this way" means that afflictions arise from afflictions, and action itself is also like that, from action arises the root, and from the root arise the root and afflictions. This is the system of the limb of existence. If it is not like that, if it is not accepted as it is said, such as "afflictions arise from afflictions," then how could it be said "this great heap of suffering"? What power would this have? Therefore, there is no need to supplement other limbs, and it will not be without end, and it is not an incomplete teaching. Others say, from other sutras, etc. From which other sutra? It is from the sutra that has a cause, has a condition, and has a root. Monks, ignorance also has a cause, has a condition, and has a root. What is the cause of ignorance? What is the condition? What is the root? It should be said that it is inappropriate attention. Thus it is said. Even so, because the condition of inappropriate attention is not mentioned, samsara has a beginning and an end, or it is necessary to supplement other limbs, so the same fault will occur. Therefore, it is said that inappropriate attention also arises from the cause of ignorance. Therefore, there is no fault in this. In the sutra it is said like this: relying on name and form and inappropriate attention, delusion arises. Why is that not said here, and how could it become another limb? Therefore, it is said that this is because it is also included in grasping. The "this" refers to inappropriate attention. The "here also" refers to the sutra of dependent origination. Grasping is all afflictions.

Because it is the nature of the present. Inappropriate attention is also a mental fabrication that is of the nature of affliction, so it is included in grasping, it will be said. In this way, ignorance is not without a cause, nor does it need to supplement other limbs, nor will it become endless. They will say this. The teacher said, "How is inappropriate attention included in grasping?" meaning like not being the nature of affliction. Grasping is only affliction, not other dharmas, as it is said, together with ignorance, are the two graspings, because there is a difference between the two views. Because it says so. If it is said that it comes from association, then, it is not because it is the nature of affliction, then what is it? It is because it is associated with grasping, so it is included in it. In order to clarify other thoughts, it is also in craving and ignorance, that is, in the limbs of dependent origination. Therefore, it will become the fault of being included in it, which is inappropriate attention. Why? Because it is like grasping, it is also associated with both craving and ignorance. Therefore, not only is it included in grasping, but also because it is included in craving and grasping, so it should be said in this way, because there is no difference. Even if it is allowed to be included in it, it will be explained in detail, it will be shown in this way, merely being associated, it will not be considered to be included in it, because it will be confusing. Even if it is allowed to be included in it, how from this to this? From that sutra, because inappropriate attention is included in grasping, it will be considered to be the cause of existence like all grasping, but not the cause of ignorance. From where is inappropriate attention, which is included in grasping, considered to be the cause of ignorance? From this sutra, grasping is not the cause of ignorance, it is not shown. If it is not shown in the sutra, merely because it is included in it, it is the cause and effect of
