In order to show that this absorption is superior to other absorptions, it is said that this absorption is conscious because it is formless. This means being separated from the perception of form. Therefore, there, one does not rely on form, but relies on kind and life to enter into absorption. For example, because of being free from desire, there is no coarse food in the form realm, but the body exists, but it is not so in the desire realm because one has not separated from desire for it. If it is said that because of having power, that is, produced by the distinction of absorption, by that alone one can enter into absorption without relying on kind and life, then what is the use of other supports? As the extensive explanation of "how are those with form," just as the similarity of kinds and the life force of those with form rely on form, then what do those without form rely on? It is those two that rely on each other. That is to say, similarity of kind relies on the life force to enter into absorption, and the life force also relies on similarity of kind. The two refers to similarity of kind and the life force. Because of small power, it means that their cause, because they have not separated from the perception of form, is small power. There, it refers to in the formless realm. Because it is born from the distinction of absorption, it means that its cause is being separated from the perception of form. This is also the same for the mind stream. What is that? That is, because it is born from the distinction of samadhi, it has power. Therefore, the mind stream enters into absorption only without a support. Others say that this also enters into absorption by relying on each other. Or, relying on the first moment to enter into the second moment, and so on. Regarding "also for mind and mental factors," if one does not want to rely on the impermanent or cessation, then, just as the two, similarity of kind and life force, rely on each other to enter into absorption, relying on mind to arise mental factors, or relying on mental factors for mind to enter into absorption, other than that, there is no need to completely speculate about other supports.

In the extensive explanation of "By what stream of mind," the cause that draws the stream of mind is the nature of karma and afflictions. "Desire" means not possessing and being free from desire. What is it? It is form. The stream of mind arises independently of form. The so-called "because it turns its back on that cause" means because it turns its back on form. Others say that for those with form, the mind and the subtle things arising from the mind rely on form to arise, not relying on form to arise. Therefore, in the formless realms, because of subtlety, they rely solely on the life force of the same kind as the subtle to arise. This is also because it does not necessarily exist in the subtle and coarse. Therefore, those grounds of the first dhyana also rely on category and life force to arise because of subtlety. If it were not so, then only the peak of existence would be subtle, and only those would rely on category and life force to arise, not others. Others say that the power of the cause of attraction runs in the stream of mind, and it is too much to arise without relying on virtue and affliction. Also, like the power of the cause of attraction of those with form, the stream of mind and form arise together, so they rely on form to arise. Similarly, the power of the cause of attraction of sentient beings with form, together with the same kind, the life force arises, not independent of form and the stream of mind, therefore, it relies on the same kind and life force to arise. It must be admitted that the stream of mind also exists in the formless realms, just like those with form. The so-called "the realm with desire is the desire realm," the twenty places are the main form of the region, so they are expressed with the word desire. Having it means not being separated from it, it is the meaning of being included in it. The seventeen places are mainly form, so they are called by the word form, and the realm with it is the form realm. Like a vajra ring, like a ring with a vajra. In the formless realm, because there is no place, the nature of the formless realm is called formless.

That is, it is indeed the nature of being unimpeded. Because it possesses that, it is the meaning of being called the nature of being unimpeded. The realms of form and formlessness should also be understood to be the same as this. The realm of form is that which holds forms. The realm of formlessness is that which holds formless things. The realm of desire is mentioned. Having food for the mouth and sexual intercourse means having those causes and those objects. If it is said, how is it known that the desire mentioned earlier is desire? Through the extensively appearing scripture: The various things of the world are not desires. The desire generated by universal discrimination is the desire of pervasive calculation. Because that is preceded by inappropriate attention. Therefore, from this verse, it is known that only the desire of universal discrimination is desire. The noble Shariputra means criticizing the promise made by the universal provider. Because the monk bound by the universal discrimination of desire promises to mentally approach desire. Merely appearing is the close enjoyment of those. By these alone, a monk does not become a non-monk. What then? It is because it is related to the downfall that leads to defeat, and that is only through the way of the body. Merely seeing forms and rejoicing is just an example. Similarly, it should not be understood until touching the touchable and rejoicing. Seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching are the close enjoyment of the desires of the objects. Your teacher
