The immediately preceding condition is definitely existent. Why is it elaborated in the phrase "after the excellence of the Dharma"? If the determining cause of arising is the immediately preceding condition, then, since it does not exist in the future, it would follow that arising is indeterminate. If asked, what does the phrase "what arises in dependence on what" elaborate on? The arising of the forbearance of knowledge of Dharma regarding suffering depends on the excellence of the Dharma, and not on anything else or the opposite. Therefore, after the excellence of the Dharma, only the forbearance of knowledge of Dharma regarding suffering arises, and not other Dharmas. Similarly, it should be stated for others as well. If there is no immediately preceding condition, then what causes the arising that depends on it? It is because the abilities are different. If it were not so, since there is no immediately preceding condition, the order of seeds and so on would become uncertain. However, the order of seeds and so on is seen to be definite. Therefore, because the abilities are different, whatever arises in dependence on what, only that arises immediately after it, and not others. Even if there is subsequent consciousness, it is acceptable, because there is no difference in the object of support. For example, when the eye arises, it is like the object of support of the eye's consciousness existing. If other causes are not complete and the eye's consciousness does not arise, then what is the fault of the eye? The situation of incomplete causes is also the case with an Arhat who has no karma and afflictions of future existence. The so-called "distinguished by function" means distinguished by producing a result, and not merely by remaining in intention. In order to establish this, for the immediately preceding condition, whatever Dharma manifests as tending towards arising, whatever is taken as the result, all of that is elaborated as "everything." The last mind and mental factors of an Arhat do not grasp a result, therefore, they do not have the function of a person, so they are not immediately preceding conditions. Those who have the immediately preceding condition of mind, those are the ones who have the immediately preceding condition of mind. Because there is no interval of another moment, it is the immediate follower of the mind. Mindless absorption.

The term "karma" refers to arising from cessation and non-conceptual absorption. As for the "arising mind," because its similarity is the immediate cause, which is the mind of absorption, it is the immediate cause of the mind's similarity. However, it is not the immediate cause of the mind, because there is an interval between the moments of absorption. The second moment of absorption is also not the immediate cause of the mind, because it is interrupted by the first moment of absorption, but it is the immediate cause of the mind's similarity, because it is the immediate cause of the mind's similarity in absorption. As for the "first moment of absorption," extensively explained, that mind is not the immediate cause of the similarity of arising and so forth, so they are not the immediate cause of the mind's similarity, but it is the immediate cause of the mind, because it is not interrupted by other moments. The first moment of absorption is both the immediate cause of the mind's similarity and the immediate cause of the mind. In the case of having mind, because it is not interrupted by the preceding moment, it is only the immediate cause of the mind. Because there is no immediate cause of the mind's similarity, it is only the immediate cause of the mind. As for "the second, etc.," extensively explained, these arising and so forth are not the nature of the immediate cause of the mind's similarity, so it is the immediate cause of the mind's similarity, but because it is interrupted by other moments, it is not the immediate cause of the mind. Whatever is the third and fourth is the first and second. Whatever is the first and second is said to be the third and fourth. As for the first moment of absorption and the case of having mind, there it is the third category, but here it is the first, because it is produced by the immediate cause of similarity, so it is the immediate cause of the mind's similarity, but it is not the immediate cause of absorption, because its immediate cause of similarity is other than the moment of absorption. As for the absorption...
