Such a thought will arise, and those differences will be explained below. The two afflictions also refer to the previous life and this life. In this continuum, it refers to what is currently arising. The substance of the seed is the ability. Thus, the two afflictions can also cause the continuum to give rise to future afflictions, so this is called establishing the substance of the seed. Abandoning the substance of the seed means abandoning the two afflictions of the previous life and this life. As long as the seed it has established exists, even if the afflictions cease, they are not abandoned. If the substance of the seed it has established is abandoned, then it is established as abandoned. For example, with the exhaustion of the fully ripened result, although the karma has ceased earlier, as long as the fruit of the fully ripened result it has established has not been exhausted, it cannot be said to be exhausted. When it is exhausted, then that karma becomes exhausted. Since the seed it has established is gone, how can future suffering or afflictions be abandoned? Therefore, it is extensively explained how future suffering or afflictions are. Seeds cannot arise, and because there are no seeds, they will never arise. The absence of seeds is only due to the power of individual examination. In this way, it is established that the suffering and afflictions of the three times have been abandoned. The present that is manifestly directed towards cessation is because it immediately perishes. The teacher Bhadanta said that because there is no difference between the cessation of individual examination and the cessation of non-individual examination, this does not exist, because the conditions are not complete due to the power of individual examination.

Just as a vase and a felt, etc., exist without confusing their distinct names. Just as a vase and a felt will never become something other than a vase and a felt, so too here, because the conditions are not complete, it does not arise, and it should never be called cessation by individual examination. Because it does not arise by the power of individual examination, it is called cessation by individual examination. Whatever is thoroughly distinguished by stopping the suffering of the three times is said to be cessation by individual examination. What is thoroughly distinguished by the non-arising of future formations is called non-cessation by individual examination. In the Dharma Abhidhamma, it is established without confusion. The answer to this has already been given. Approaching what has ceased and what is ceasing, one might think that the effort will not become meaningless. If one does not wish to abandon the nature of suffering, then what is the abandonment of the afflictions that are aimed at it? That is because the future has become an obstacle to the arising of afflictions aimed at it, so it is hoped for. The non-arising of afflictions is not in any other way than cessation by individual examination and non-individual examination. It is also unreasonable to fully realize the attainment aimed at it, because it has been prevented. What is said is that at the time of abandoning afflictions, there are no afflictions aimed at past and present suffering, because they have been abandoned, so it is called abandoning past and present suffering. Similarly, what is the use of mentioning the present? (It is to explain) abandoning afflictions. So, what is abandoned by the seeds established in the past and future? Abandoning the seeds is transforming them by the power of the path. Whatever is future is like a flower in the sky, so it is said that there is no function of aiming at it. To this, others may ask, what is the object of past and future suffering? The answer is that from the abandonment of afflictions, it can be called the abandonment of suffering, but it is not aimed at the future itself. So, if there are seeds, will afflictions arise that are aimed at it? As long as this arising is possible, then this has not been abandoned. Because it has not been abandoned, even if it is aimed at it, it cannot be said to be abandoned. When this is transformed, because the seeds are abandoned, at that time it will never arise, so it is said to be abandoned.

It is called. Because it is abandoned, even if one focuses on it, it is said that suffering is abandoned. If what is said is that the future itself does not exist, how can it not arise? Because there is a previous entity, it is called non-existence. That is not so, whatever exists arises from causes. Keeping it in mind, it is said that the future will not arise. Because there is a previous entity, it is called non-existence, but this is not certain. If that were the case, destruction would become the complete non-existence of one to another. Because it is not completely non-existent and not previously non-existent, this is not certain. If this must be admitted, then non-arising is what does not arise, arising is not what does not arise, so the future existence itself is also a thing of arising and ceasing, and therefore it would become belonging to time. Furthermore, because the five separate sense faculties of the object are abandoned, it is said to enter, because it is not said with extreme attachment, so it is said to those who are to be tamed with the aim of abandoning suffering. Here, what is to be negated is not the abandonment of afflictions. For example, obstacles and other objects are also, because they are separated from attachment to the bonds of form and other objects, and because the desire for the intention to wander around repeatedly is abandoned, it is said that form and other objects are abandoned, this is because it is respectfully combined with abandoning it. It should be understood that this is not to say that if other things are abandoned, form and other things are not abandoned. It is said that the cessation of those is excellent, because it is permanent, so it is pure, it is excellent. It is said that the unconditioned of virtue is excellent. In this way, Nirvana is also the excellence of conditioned and unconditioned dharmas, and it is also non-existent, saying this is contrary to the sutras. Like this, non-existence is without characteristics, so it is not the nature of dharma. The unspeakable is not the excellence of the unspeakable purity, because there is no difference. Therefore, whatever is held by its own characteristics is called dharma, and whatever is more excellent than other dharmas is something that has slightly become another meaning. Do not say that the unconditioned is just non-existence, so there is no contradiction with the sutras. If it exists, but it is not substantially existent.
