Because there is the power of wisdom, it is therefore eliminated by individual examination. Suffering does not arise because there is no function of wisdom, so it is not eliminated by individual examination. This is because the cause of suffering arising is obtained because the afflictions are not complete, so it is said here that it is not eliminated by individual examination. That is to say, without individual examination, suffering will not arise. Because the incompleteness of the cause is preceded by individual examination, it cannot be achieved without individual examination, so it can only be eliminated by individual examination. Self-nature is extinguished, which means that it is extinguished without wisdom. If this is the case, then individual examination and elimination is only impermanent elimination, it will be said. Beings without obstacles to arising, for those beings who have not hindered arising, because they have not hindered arising, they are without obstacles to arising. Those things that hinder arising are the power of individual examination. Because it depends on cause and condition, sometimes it arises, so it arises through wisdom, those are the things that hinder arising. Wisdom does not arise, it is not originally there, arising is not like this. Therefore, individual examination and elimination is not impermanence itself, and wisdom has no power. If only non-arising is nirvana, and not another real entity like the Sarvastivadins, then, the suffering that has arisen in the past and present, because it has already arisen, there is no non-arising, then how to guide the words of this sutra? If it is thought that nirvana is a real entity, then this sutra cannot be guided, that is what is thought. The five faculties are faith and so on. For this, eliminating the afflictions of the object is to show that suffering is not eliminated by its own nature. Desire and attachment, desire is wanting, attachment is clinging. In this way, eliminating the afflictions of the object, although suffering is eliminated, if it is not assumed that nirvana is a real entity, then the suffering of the three times of past, present, and future is eliminated.

It is possible. Why? Because by the power of individual examination, subtle afflictions arising from suffering in the past, future, and present will never arise. The word "also" refers to different ways of speaking. The meaning of "this is the only way" is that it is only by abandoning the afflictions associated with it that it can be abandoned. Because by the power of individual examination, subtle afflictions associated with afflictions arising in the past, future, and present will never arise. Alternatively, the meaning of "necessity" is to explain the intention of different ways of speaking again. What arises in the previous life is the previous lifetime. What arises in this life is this lifetime. If it is said in this way, the afflictions of the past and present, which are not momentary, will be eliminated. The way to know this is as it is said, "For those who engage in various forms of craving." Those who engage in various forms of craving are those who are doubtful and wavering. It should not be thought that the past and future times are only a moment. It should be understood that this refers to the generations of the past and present. Similarly, here too, all the continuities of afflictions of the previous life and this life should be connected, not just a moment. Those eighteen forms of craving are: if monks think "I am," the thought "I am like this" will arise, as well as thoughts like "I am like this," "I am not like that," "I am good," and "I am bad." For the thought "it will arise," the thought "it will arise" will arise. For the thought "it will not arise," and thoughts like "it will arise like this," "it will arise like this," "it will not arise like that." For the thought "become like that," the thought "become like that" will arise, as well as thoughts like "become like this," "become like this," "do not become like that." For the thought "what does it matter even if it becomes like that," and thoughts like "what does it matter even if it becomes like this," "what does it matter even if it becomes like this," "what does it matter even if it does not become like that."
