Although it is itself so, it is said considering that the cause has not been abandoned. Not showing the proof of that cause is also abandonment. Because it is necessary to completely rely on what is abandoned by the path of seeing to abandon it, and also there is no complete falling away from the path of seeing. That arises from improper attention. Therefore, it is said considering that what is to be abandoned by the cultivation of non-virtuous desire, etc., has not been abandoned. How is it not abandoned? Because there is complete falling away from abandoning it. Considering the non-virtuous cause gathered by the co-emergent and corresponding causes, it is said that way, so there is no contradiction with the scriptures. The universally present cause has been explained. // The result-ripening cause is non-virtue, etc. // Speaking extensively like this, the cause of result-ripening is only those, it should be understood definitively like this. But it is not said that those are only the cause of result-ripening. Mentioning with outflows is to exclude without outflows. Because non-virtue is only with outflows, there is no distinction made from that. Also, what is the meaning of cause here? For example, how do sentient beings differentiate karma when karma ripens? Like the inferior for inferior beings and the abundant for excellent beings. The word 'and' is to know that although the causes are different, the results are not different. Definitively understanding is to avert the cause of result-ripening from becoming excessive. Some think that everything is result-ripening, because it is said that the appearance of great magnitude is result-ripening. If it is said that the result-ripening of craving is feeling, then that word is not spoken by the Thus-Gone One, whatever becomes result-ripening, the cause of all that will become the cause of result-ripening. sāmāstadhyate ete (Sanskrit Devanagari: सामास्तद्यते एते, Sanskrit Romanization: sāmāstadhyate ete, Chinese literal meaning: Generally speaking, these.) aubamyatāminno (Sanskrit Devanagari: औबम्यतामिन्नो, Sanskrit Romanization: aubamyatāminno, Chinese literal meaning: Not reducing.) The word 'result-ripening', from wherever it is said, this itself is the cause of result-ripening, not others. Because that itself is the dharma of result-ripening, it means because it is the occasion of result-ripening. To show that others are not the dharma of result-ripening, the question is: Why not in the scriptures

The teaching is explained extensively as such. Just as rotten seeds, although appearing moist, are not the cause of sprouts because of their weak power, similarly, the unspecified are also not the cause of maturation because they are accompanied by outflows. Although craving makes them appear moist, they are not the cause of maturation because of their weak power. Again, just as hard seeds, not moistened by water, are the cause of sprouts, similarly, those without outflows are also not the cause of maturation because they are virtuous. Although hard, they are not moistened by craving. One is not the cause of maturation because it lacks its own power. The other is not the cause of maturation because it lacks the co-emergent condition. The term "those that are not possessed" is explained extensively. Maturation is the characteristic of the desire realm and so forth. If it inevitably becomes associated with the desire realm and so forth, then that which is not possessed cannot be the cause of maturation, because there is no definite cause. The term "the remainder" refers to non-virtue and virtue that are accompanied by outflows. The term "because it is both" means that virtue and non-virtue themselves are hard. They possess their own power, and because they are moistened by craving, they possess the condition of acting together. Either way is fine, as has been said before. If we abbreviate and say, "The cause of maturation is maturation," then, because the word "cause" is hidden, it does not contradict the statement that "the eye is born from maturation." Alternatively, if we abbreviate and say, "Maturation itself is the cause, therefore it is the cause of maturation," then karma that has reached the time of fruition is called maturation. In that case, it does not contradict the term "the maturation of karma." The fruit is maturation, therefore it is called maturation. It is not because it will become maturation. The term "ripening differently" means that the fruit of maturation is a fruit that is different from the cause. This is a summary statement. Thus, the cause is non-virtue and virtue accompanied by outflows, while the fruit is the unspecified.
