The operative cause of things that arise now, that is, the fruit of past things is the operative cause with the nature of being unobstructed for things that will arise in the future and things that arise now. Things that arise now are the operative cause of past things, but they are not the fruit of the future. Both conditioned and unconditioned things, that is, of unconditioned things, with that two-two sleep conditioned and unconditioned things, that is the operative cause of conditioned things. Conditioned things are not its fruit. Therefore, it should be said that from becoming an operative cause, it is not its fruit, all dharmas are operative causes, and its fruit is only conditioned things. Similarly, hells and so on also have the power to generate formless aggregates. Like this, alas, these hells and hungry ghosts and so on are extremely painful, thinking of hells and so on, discriminating with the mind, virtuous consciousness arises. From there, gradually abiding in discipline, and diligently applying to meditation, therefore the formless attainments will arise. The operative cause has been explained. Whatever arises together, mutually is the fruit, should be connected with the word "cause." Regarding this, some people think that the co-emergent cause is only those dharmas that mutually become fruit. If that is the case, those that do not mutually become fruit will be considered co-emergent causes, therefore, there should not be dharmas of the same nature arising simultaneously. Therefore, if it becomes a mutual fruit, it must be co-emergent, it should not be considered as something else. If that is the case, all that arise together will be considered as co-emergent causes. Therefore, it is said which are mutual fruits, because they are mutual causes. Because of fruit and co-emergence, it is a co-emergent cause. Co-emergence is also this, and cause is also this, so it is a co-emergent cause. Or, because it is the cause of co-emergent dharmas, it is a co-emergent cause. Therefore, those are mutually co-

The so-called "cause of suchness" has been stated. Because it cannot be understood without an example, it is asked, "What is it like?" Here are the words of the debater: "The meaning of the question does not exist, because everything is expressed by example." If so, then here not everything is expressed by example, however, by showing approximately with "like what," there are also things not expressed by example. What are they? They are the mental concomitants with each other, and the characteristics with each other. The four great elements are, in this statement, even if there is remaining substance, it is composed of one of the three, because it does not depend on its own nature, and it does not depend on the equality of the substance portion. The others each depend on the three, and the four aggregates, because they can follow the form that is made into a cause. Except for one's own characteristic, there is other remaining substance, therefore this should be examined. Thus, what is said as "all conditioned phenomena" is too broad, so it is said "as appropriate." This will be shown as follows: everything is the cause of simultaneous arising, but not caused by everything. What then? Because they are mutual results, so it should also be said that the mental followers and those with mutual characteristics are also. This is also explained by the answer of the debate. In the statement "even if there is no mutual result, the dharma is," the dharma is the main reason, it is related to those with common characteristics, but those are not its, because they are distant. It should be completed, that is, it should be approximately completed. Why is the characteristic not made pervasive in this way? Because the scriptures say that the cause of simultaneous arising is the phenomena of the same result of conditioned phenomena. The scriptures do not say that the form that follows the mind is the cause of the mind's simultaneous arising. To this, the teacher Ācārya(藏文,梵文天城体,ācārya,阿阇梨) Samantabhadra replied: characteristics bhaṃ byaṃ tū na tā yāṃ ca ye(藏文,梵文天城体,,,)All those who are definitely born simultaneously with the mind, follow the mind by depending on it, therefore, they themselves are simultaneous with the mind mutually, so they are said to be the cause of simultaneous arising. Some that are not certain to arise simultaneously with the mind are many.
