Even without a companion, it is merely called "one" in order to know that it is unique; it is called "small" in order to know smallness; it is called "having" in order to know that it arises by gathering in a place; it is called "distinction" in order to know that it arises in different places, and so on. The so-called "having many forms" means having many forms, because there are various different forms such as form, feeling, and so on. The so-called "birth," although too general, is said to be "the birth of form" in the sixth case in order to distinguish it. For example, although it is too general, it is also used in the sixth case to say "the nature of form" in order to distinguish other natures. In order to know this, it is necessary to know that only form arises, so it is explained in detail. For example, in words such as "of sandalwood," although there is no other sandalwood in odors and so on, odors and so on are not the nature of sandalwood, and they also exist in saffron and so on. In order to distinguish these, the sixth case is used to say "of sandalwood." In "the body of a bird," although there is no other body other than the body of a bird that has a collection of form and so on, the sixth case is used to say "the body of a bird" in order to distinguish it from the body of a tiger and so on. Similarly, one should understand dwelling and so on accordingly. The so-called "dwelling" is the name of continuity. Because continuity also has many forms, the sixth case is used to say "the dwelling of the body" in order to distinguish it. In this way, one should know only the continuity of the body, not that of others. The so-called "old age" refers to the difference between the previous and subsequent continuity, and that continuity of the difference between the previous and subsequent also has many forms, which should be explained extensively as before. The so-called "destruction" refers to the cessation of continuity, and this should also be explained extensively as before. The teacher Sangharakshita said: The understanding of one and so on is not completely denied as being other, but like the understanding of birth and so on, it is to prevent other similar things. The so-called "one" is different from others, and long and short are also relative to each other. Minute particles exist in

Regarding what is dependent, if it is said to depend on other things, then it is called having and distinguishing. From the existence of the cause of what has not arisen, it exists, and similarly, it shows that everything depends on others. The Abhidharma masters never say that any action has a birth different from it. The so-called constant is non-dependence. This also applies to selflessness and so on. Similarly, here too, depending on the unborn, there is birth; depending on the non-abiding, there is abiding; depending on the un-aging, there is aging; and depending on the un-decaying, there is decay. What is there to distinguish about birth and so on, which have different meanings? If one does not depend on birth, actions cannot exist, which is exactly what was just said. If it is said that one is born without birth, then it will be explained in detail that birth is the cause of the birth of actions, which arises simultaneously, and the remaining causes and conditions act simultaneously with it. Therefore, for what has birth, in order to make it arise, other causes and conditions can also act. For the unconditioned, there is no birth, therefore, for it, the action of other conditions is small, so the action is birth. The so-called birth refers to arising from what has not arisen, and what has not arisen can only be for conditioned phenomena, because it does not exist before birth. The unconditioned is always existent, therefore, it is not arising from what has not arisen, so it is unborn, birth is birth, but it is not non-birth. Furthermore, what is nature? Nature is the self and essence of phenomena. It is believed that only conditioned phenomena have birth, while the unconditioned does not. For this, there is no other cause other than nature. Therefore, even if there is no birth, not everything is born from nature. This is how it should be understood. Furthermore, how does one speak from what is similar to having birth? This refers to form, feeling, and so on. The so-called from other conditions refers to conditions different from those that produce form, namely feeling.
