Something that hinders the arising of mind in between. How can something that doesn't exist hinder the arising of mind? If the mind that is entering doesn't enter, is it because the cause is easy, or because of the proximate cause that contradicts its entering? It is not temporarily because the cause is exhausted, because it will arise again. Therefore, it should be understood that it is caused by other contradictory causes. If the contradictory cause is the samadhi of cessation, then it is not, because only the mind of samadhi hinders it. If it is said that it is caused by other contradictory causes, then if it is true that the mind does not enter at that time, then the contradictory cause is the mind of samadhi that contradicts the arising of other minds, and not others. It is also unreasonable for the entering of the mind to be completely cut off from the cause of entering, and the mind is also the cause of entering. Therefore, just as the wind is to a candle, it must be admitted that there is another cause for the mind not entering. Therefore, it is said, "In order to generate a basis that contradicts it," which means, in order to generate a basis that contradicts the arising of the mind. Just as a candle depends on a wick, the entering of the mind depends on the basis. Therefore, it is not contradictory that the mind does not enter when the basis is damaged. The damage to the basis is caused by the mind of samadhi, therefore, only the mind of samadhi hinders it, so it is said. For samadhi, the non-entering of the mind is called samadhi. What is the proximate cause for establishing it? If there is no proximate cause, then there is no establishment at all. If it is said like this, then those minds that do not enter, those are the proximate causes of non-entering. If it is said that those that do not exist because they have not arisen, how can they be the proximate causes of establishment? Even if it is in the future, those that abide in the mind are considered to be the proximate causes of non-entering, for example: When the perfect Buddhas do not appear, and the Shravakas are exhausted, the wisdom of the Pratyekabuddhas arises without dependence. There, only the future Buddhas who abide in the mind do not appear, because the unarisen Buddhas

It is not that there is nothing. Only those Shravakas who have perished and remain in consciousness are said to be exhausted, not those who are present now. Therefore, although the past and the future do not exist, it is not contradictory that those that have perished and those that have not been born are only the grasping that is established in consciousness. If it is said that meditative absorption is merely the non-entry of the future mind, and since it is also without substance, will it become unconditioned? Therefore, the mere non-entry is also spoken of in detail. Here, based on what is it said to be conditioned? The mere non-entry does not establish conditioned phenomena at all, but since meditative absorption has no before or after, merely by not entering, meditative absorption is designated as conditioned. Or, relying on self-nature, it appears in detail. Previously, from the perspective of terminology, merely not entering the mind is the non-entry of meditative absorption itself, and it is said to be conditioned itself. Now, by the power of meditative absorption, the self-nature of the basis that obtains another state is meditative absorption. Therefore, although from the ultimate point of view, there is no substance of conditioned phenomena, it will be said to be meditative absorption. The unconscious being is also the same. Just as the meditative absorption of cessation is merely imputed, so is the unconscious being. For a yogi, when the force of his aspiration that propels meditative absorption ceases, the mind consciousness arises dependent on mind and dharmas, while the unconscious being dies because the force of the ripening of karma is exhausted. Meditative absorptions have been taught. Life is lifespan. This is a statement of synonyms, not a definition, because it is done from the perspective of what is taught in the scriptures. For that very reason, it is said in the Dharma Abhidhamma, "Thus it is said." A synonym, if established, is a definition. This is established like life, so it cannot be used to determine the meaning of life, therefore, what is this dharma called lifespan, will appear in detail. What is the basis of warmth and consciousness, that is explained from the perspective of the result. The cause of existence, that is, becoming the basis, this is
