The so-called nine successive attainments, the initial author must be the father. Here, without generating the first dhyana, one cannot enter the second dhyana. Similarly, without generating the state of neither perception nor non-perception, one cannot enter into the cessation of perception and feeling. Being in control of joy is indeed being extremely in control. The so-called "transcending and entering into samadhi" refers to the progression from the first to the third dhyana. The same applies from the third dhyana to the realm of infinite space and so on. From the cessation attainment to the peak of existence, the statement "the nature of the four skandhas as ripened result" is a matter of debate. The nature of life and so on depends on the mind and body, therefore even at the peak of existence, since it is formless, there cannot be a state without consciousness. The existence of a single skandha is impossible, therefore it should not be without mind and mental factors. How does one enter the non-perceptual samadhi (དྷྱཱ་ནོ་ཏྱཻ, dhyānotyai, meditation, entering)? Even at the peak of existence, one enters the cessation attainment (ར་སཾ་ག་ཏྱ་ན་ནུ་བརྟ་ཏེ, rāsaṃgatyanānubartate, not conforming to taste). The phrase "consciousness and so on also" is a term of contention. The fourth dhyana and the peak of existence are of the same ground, because it is an expansion of the same ground. It is also unreasonable to generate it immediately after (བི་ཙཱ་རི་ཎི་ཡ་མི་ཏེ, vicāriṇīyamite, investigation, not). This is unreasonable because there is no immediate arising, so it becomes excessively the cause of the same ground. What is said is, if after the fourth dhyana there is the cessation attainment without consciousness, then the fourth dhyana is the preliminary to the successive abiding attainment. Since successive arising has been acknowledged, why wouldn't there be obstacles? Therefore, the statement "after the attainment of the fourth dhyana, the cessation attainment arises" is a term of contention. When this is in accordance with cutting off the mind, there is no manifest fabrication, its course is extremely subtle, thereby manifesting the path. Having obtained it, successively, the nature of neither perception nor non-perception cuts off the mind, with mindfulness of attachment to the realm of nothingness.

The attainment of cessation, which is accomplished by abandonment, is accomplished only by the peak of existence. Because it is an attainment free from desire, or an attainment of gradual abiding, etc., such a situation would contradict the sutras, therefore the attainment of non-perception should also be included here. It is certain that the abandonment of desire by the Sugata does not refer to the abandonment of desire of a higher level. Thus, these two attainments, etc., occur as described above. Because it is certain to be experienced and both. The attainment of non-perception is certain to be experienced. The attainment of cessation is both. The non-returner is certain to be experienced, but not the Arhat, because he enters Nirvana in that very state. Or, it is experienced after birth, and experienced in another life, so both can be experienced. Even the first born, this is explained in detail. The attainment of non-perception, some are first born among the Asuras, and some are born among the gods. The attainment of cessation is only first born among the Asuras, and if it has been lost, it can also be born in the form realm. Furthermore, why is this attainment only first born among the Asuras, and not in the form realm like the attainment of non-perception? Because it is not in samadhi, the thoughts and feelings of the desire realm, etc., are extremely disturbed by investigation and analysis, etc., so the non-returners are disgusted by it, and think that by abiding in the peaceful attainment of cessation, they can be happy, so they can attain the attainment of cessation, and practice it repeatedly. The non-returner is born in the form realm, because the form realm is in samadhi, and the mind and mental factors arise, so it does not disturb in this way, so the attainment of cessation does not arise there for the first time. Those who have already arisen, if they have lost it, then it arises from the power of previous habituation. The attainment of non-perception
