Therefore, if it does not exceed what is to be abandoned by seeing, then one cannot generate the absorption of cessation at the peak of existence. Solitary realizers also do not have anything that exceeds that. They say that. Here, it is said "through diligence" because it arises by generating the power of the noble path. Therefore, it is said that "this can only be obtained through practice," it is not obtained through detachment from desire, but it shows that this is the very one with co-emergent attainment. Saying "the past is also not obtained," if one completely declines and generates it again, just like the vows of individual liberation, one only obtains what was previously non-existent through practice, not what was previously declined. Saying "the future is also not obtained," even if it is obtained through practice, the future will not be obtained. Why? Because it is obtained through the power of the mind. Therefore, it is said that whatever little of that kind is obtained in the future is through the power of the mind, like the forbearance of knowing the Dharma in suffering, and so on. It is also said that the absorption of cessation is only obtained through practice. In other treatises, it is said: "O Virtuous One, none of yours arises from practice. Wherever you wish to be, you know where to be, it depends entirely on your wish." Therefore, the question is asked: Is the Bhagavan also produced from practice? Saying "obtained through enlightenment," although that is also the enlightenment of cessation and non-arising, here it specifically refers to the knowledge of cessation. Therefore, it is said in detail, "simultaneous with the knowledge of cessation." Like this, from "those qualities" and so on, up to "therefore those," there is a detailed explanation. The word "only" is for the purpose of distinguishing effort. Saying "liberated from the two parts," the two parts are the obscuration of afflictions and the obscuration of samadhi. Among them, the vajra-like samadhi liberates from the obscuration of afflictions, and liberation occurs at the time of attaining the knowledge of cessation. Generating the absorption of cessation is the absorption of

It liberates from the two obscurations, and once generated, it is liberation. So, when does the Blessed One, upon knowing cessation, be called liberated from the two parts? When the cessation attainment has not been generated, how can one be liberated from the obscuration of entering into attainment? Because of being separated from that obscuration, and because not possessing it, it completely disappears, so at the time when the Blessed One knows cessation, just like having already generated it, one has attained mastery, because one is free from the obstacles that can manifestly generate it. Therefore, even when it has not been generated, it is established that one is liberated from the two parts. The Westerners say: That "first" is a vast arising, how so? Although a Bodhisattva is free from desire from the sphere of nothingness, yet relying on the fourth dhyana, he sees the truths and obtains the fruit of non-return, and rising from that, he enters the peak of existence, and then enters the cessation attainment. Rising from the cessation attainment, relying on the fourth dhyana, by meditating on the afflictions of the peak of existence, he abandons what is to be abandoned and becomes a Buddha, a Blessed One, this is the nature of dharma. In that way, it is generated in the stage of learning, they say. Therefore, the so-called "in the meantime" is in the meantime of thirty-four moments. Different minds, whether it is the peak of existence or the mind arising from the fourth dhyana, is acceptable, but because it is with outflows, it is not possible to enter the cessation attainment with that peak of existence, because it is a more subtle subsequent attainment than the peak of existence, so it is impossible. The so-called "what will become" is that it will become something contradictory to the treatises or contradictory to reason. The so-called "will become with thought" is a vast arising. The so-called "thought" is intention. For what reason will it become without thought? The Vaibhashikas say: Because of having well accumulated the accumulations of merit and wisdom, and because of possessing great compassion, and because of being uncommon.
