The teacher Dusang also said that one should not say that the coarseness and subtlety of the mind are the coarseness and subtlety of the mind. Then how should it be said? A coarse mind is the coarseness that exists in the mind. Its entity is the coarse mind itself. The subtle mind is also the same. When speaking of coarseness and subtlety, it is not reasonable to say that coarseness and subtlety, that is, seeking and examining, are different from the mind in nature, because their nature is not different. That is to say, the mind itself is subtle at some times and coarse at others, but other than that, it has no other coarse or subtle dharma, this is what is thought. Or, feeling and perception will also become seeking and examining, because feeling is coarse and perception is subtle. Through each other's coarseness and subtlety, it can be considered that they are different in nature. If the nature is different, then the difference will be seen. Then, why are feeling and perception not the place of coarseness and subtlety? Because coarseness and subtlety can also be seen in the same nature. Others say and so on will appear. The manifestation of speech refers to the wisdom and so on that serve as the intention of speech, which is the manifestation of speech. Seeking and examining are the manifestation of speech, this is what you admit, why is that? Therefore, it is widely said in the sutras that after observation and analysis, one speaks words truthfully, that is its meaning. Among them, what is coarse? It is what makes speech enter into coarseness. Subtlety is the opposite. If examined in this way, then seeking and examining will be considered to exist as imputation and as name, because they can initiate the collection of mind and mental factors, and the coarseness and subtlety of speech will not appear simultaneously. Otherwise, because it can show its nature, its nature will be revealed through the action of the aggregates. If on one mind and so on will appear widely, to the question of how two exist simultaneously on one mind, after admitting it, the answer is, what contradiction is there in this?

That is, if, like feeling and perception, on one mind, coarse discrimination is also another dharma, and subtle investigation is also another dharma, what contradiction is there in saying this? If feeling and perception are different, then discrimination and investigation are also of different kinds, then there is no contradiction. If the kinds are different, feeling is coarse and perception is subtle, so although the two are coarse and subtle, they do not contradict on one mind. For discrimination and investigation, there is no such kind of difference. Apart from being coarse and subtle, they have not determined their own nature. On the same kind that has not determined its own characteristics, small and large, coarse and subtle cannot occur simultaneously on one mind's entity. Others say that on one mind there is also the saying of coarse and subtle, so not only are they coarse and subtle, but also like feeling and perception, there are also differences in kind, so there is no contradiction in the simultaneous occurrence of discrimination and investigation. If so, then the kinds of discrimination and investigation are different, like feeling and perception, it must be determined that each other's nature is particularly superior, it must be said, and it cannot be understood without saying it. Because the difference is subtle, it is difficult to say, because their small and large are coarse and subtle, so their functions will not be confused. Acharya Samantabhadra says that because the nature of dharma is shown in many ways, it shows the possession similar to nature, as well as the nature of cause and effect and ability, and object, etc., rather than being merely nature without selection, such as the earth element is hardness. Non-virtue is the possession similar to shamelessness and impudence. Samadhi is the one-pointedness of mind, and touch arises from the gathering of the three. Eye consciousness depends on the eye faculty. What is knowing dharma? It is the possession similar to desire, like this and so on. One should use this reasoning to seek the nature of dharmas like this and so on, the nature of dharmas is extremely difficult to realize. Others say that if so, it will not be clear, why? Different kinds.
