, it is the root of equanimity and mind. If one obtains the once-returner's unconditioned path, becoming the eighth root of omniscience is also the same. If one gradually obtains the non-returner's fruit through the noble path, then one becomes the eighth root of omniscience. If it is said that one is free from desire, that is, one who is free from desire for the desire realm, and who, up to the realm of nothingness, has generated the path of seeing by being a separate being free from desire. At that time, he realizes the ultimate truth and abandons the nine types of afflictions belonging to the desire realm, so he is only a non-returner. How is the stream-enterer's fruit? On the uninterrupted path, it is the root that makes all-knowing, and on the path of liberation, it is the root of all-knowing, as well as faith and so on, and the mind is the same. This is the difference, because it must be obtained through the absence of impossibility, so the fruits of stream-enterer and once-returner are always only the root of equanimity, while the fruit of non-returner can be any of the roots of pleasure, joy, or equanimity, depending on the difference of the basis. If it is obtained by relying on the third dhyana, then it is the root of pleasure. If the truths are seen by relying on the first and second dhyanas, then it is the root of joy. If it is obtained by relying on the realm of nothingness, special samadhi, and the fourth dhyana, then it is the root of equanimity. When is this ultimate? In detail, only sharp faculties can approach and enter samadhi on the ninth path of liberation, but dull faculties cannot. Because one likes to transfer feelings, and the faculties are sharp but not sufficient. When is this ultimate? And so on are mentioned. Among them, on the ninth path of liberation, the mind of the actual ground of samadhi is the root of joy. The uninterrupted path is always only the root of equanimity, if one enters samadhi.
