The four cease. Such a principle appears in the extensive explanation. There are three types of minds at the time of death: afflicted, indeterminate, and virtuous. Among them, when dying with an afflicted or indeterminate mind, it should be understood that the faculties mentioned earlier cease, because there are no other faculties. In the case of virtue, all five cease. The term "all" means that it also applies to the death of all three realms. In the case of virtue, undoubtedly the five, such as faith, cease, because faith and the like are necessarily present in the virtuous mind. The word "also" makes it known that what was said before also ceases. The term "extensive counting" refers to fifteen, fourteen, or thirteen elements ceasing simultaneously in the desire realm, and nine elements ceasing gradually in those who die gradually. In the context of the faculties, it appears in the extensive explanation. Because the treatise was composed to thoroughly distinguish the dharmas, therefore, in the context of the faculties, all the dharmas of the faculties should be examined. The fruits arise extensively through the practice of asceticism. Although those who are not faculties can also obtain the fruits of asceticism, it is because the occasion has arisen in the context of the faculties that only these are examined. The statement "the last two fruits are obtained by nine" means that it is definitely obtained only by nine. In the treatise, it is taught from the perspective of a person obtaining all the fruits. Because it is at the extreme, it is the final result of the stream-enterer and the arhats. Because it is between the two, the once-returner and the non-returner are in the middle. Among them, the fruit of stream-entry is extensively explained. Because the fruit of stream-entry is the fruit of the path of seeing and the path of meditation, it is said that faith and the like, and the faculties except for the all-knowing faculty, are mentioned. Among them, because it is virtuous, there are faith and the like. Because the forbearance of subsequent knowledge of the path is the path of seeing, there is a faculty of knowing everything there. Because the subsequent knowledge of the path is the path of meditation, there is a faculty of knowing everything there. The stream-enterer's

Since the path of fruition is encompassed by the unobstructed, there is only neutral feeling there, so there is also the faculty of neutral feeling. Whatever consciousness exists there is the faculty of mind. The forbearance of subsequent knowledge on the path is on the unobstructed path. Subsequent knowledge is on the path of liberation. The term "also by two" refers to both the unobstructed path and the path of liberation. The term "that is obtained" refers to the fruit of stream-entry. How so? The attainment of separation is extensively explained. The unobstructed path is the guide, because it severs the attainment of afflictions that have become obstacles to birth. Therefore, the attainment of separation is the corresponding cause and the result of the agent of the unobstructed paths. Because the attainment of separation arises simultaneously with the path of liberation, the path of liberation is the very basis of the attainment of separation. Thus, if separation is not the result of the path of liberation, nor is it the attainment of it, how is it said that the fruit of stream-entry is obtained by the faculty of complete knowledge? Because the unobstructed paths are the retinue of the path of liberation. Just as what is done by the retinue of a king is attributed to the king, so what is done by the unobstructed paths is attributed to the paths of liberation, as some say. The Westerners say: Because the hearing of separation is realized simultaneously with the path of liberation. The teacher Friend of Virtue says: Because separation would necessarily become its result, this is not the case. He further says: Due to the determination of the cause of having an equal share of desire, the nature of a renunciant is not the result of the path of liberation, such as the fruit. Due to the determination of simultaneous arising with correspondence, there is no fault. How can those who create mutual obstacles prevent the very nature of the renunciant from being the mutual result of the agent? If so, the application, the unobstructed, and the distinction of
