Since it is necessary to show the stage of obtaining names such as Tathagata, it is necessary to explain the powers such as all-knowing, and to state it. Those bodily feelings that are not pleasant are called the power of suffering. Since there are also pleasant bodily feelings, the term "not pleasant" is specifically distinguished. Since there are also unpleasant feelings of the mind, the term "bodily" is mentioned. In order not to understand the meaning expressed by "not pleasant," another term is used to show its meaning, that is, "not pleasant" means harmful, which is a synonym for "suffering." It will be shown in this way: the harmful experience that arises together with the five consciousnesses is called the power of suffering. Pleasantness is the power of happiness, which is combined with the body. Here, the difference and the differentiated dharma are the same as before. It will be shown in this way: the beneficial experience that arises together with the five consciousnesses, and that arises together with the three consciousnesses, is the power of happiness. If it is thought that there is also the power of happiness in the third dhyana, if someone says that it is not of the body, therefore, in the third dhyana, "of the mind, that is the power of happiness" is said. The phrase "of the mind" distinguishes the body. The phrase "that" distinguishes the unpleasant, therefore, "that" is said. The pleasant feeling of the mind is the power of happiness. Also, why is it that in the desire realm and the first dhyana, the pleasantness of the body is considered the power of happiness, while in the third dhyana it is of the mind? Therefore, it is said that "bodily feeling does not exist." Why does it not exist? Therefore, it is said that "because there is no collection of the five consciousnesses there." In other places, that is mental happiness. For "mental happiness," it changes in the way of the mind experiencing pleasantness. The body also enters into distinction, therefore it is only happiness. Therefore, the pleasant feeling of the mind is the power of mental happiness other than in the third dhyana. "In other places" is said.

In order to prevent the fault of (the third dhyana) being higher than this. Therefore, the desire realm and the first and second dhyanas are mentioned, because they only exist in these realms. And why is it that, like the first and second dhyanas, it is not said in the third dhyana that it is the source of mental pleasure? Therefore, in the third dhyana, "happiness" appears extensively. Mental pleasure is joy, which is merely the tranquility arising from the mind. The third dhyana can also be attained by being free from the desire for joy. The sutra says that by being free from the desire for joy, one abides in equanimity, possesses mindfulness, and abides in happiness. Therefore, in the third dhyana, only the feeling of pleasure is mentioned, not the feeling of mental pleasure. Furthermore, if these two minds are the same in experiencing benefit, what is the difference? The difference is that the feeling of pleasure of the mind enters stably, while the feeling of mental pleasure enters unstably, because the mind also exists. Ānugrahopirūrbasyanātipalavānyatattarasyātaāpāyāptadāgisthānamityekṣate. (Tibetan: ཨཱ་ནུ་གྲ་ཧོ་པི་རཱུརྦ་སྱ་ནཱ་ཏི་པ་ལ་བཱཉ་ཐཏྟ་ར་སྱཱ་ཏ་ཨཱ་པཱ་ཡཱཔྟ་དཱ་གི་སྠཱ་ན་མི་ཏྱེ་ཙཀྵ་ཏེ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: आनुग्रहो पिरूर्बस्य नातिपलवान्य तत्तरस्यात आपायाप्त दागिस्थान मित्येक्षते, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: ānugraho pirūrbasya nātipalavānya tattarasyāta āpāyāpta dāgisthāna mityekṣate, literal Chinese meaning: Grace, of Pirurva, not overly frivolous, Tattarasyata, Apayapta, Dagisthana, thus observe.) Considering that it does not enter in the form of joy, in the third dhyana, the feeling of pleasure is the distinction of the speculative basis related to the form of mind, if these are possessed, then it is not. Benefit is also because the previous one is not very powerful, so how does it transform? It is said that in a refuting Hindu text, there exists a sect with a Tattra fracture. If it is said that this is the basis, then there is no fault in this. Because mental pleasure enters unstably, while the feeling of pleasure of the mind enters stably. In other situations, other names can be seen, such as "Marsar" and "Marvashin." What the body experiences is not tranquility, but suffering. And what the mind experiences is called displeasure. Through the distinction between the tranquility and non-tranquility of body and mind, the three feelings have already been distinguished. Now what is to be said is the feeling of equanimity, therefore it is widely said that "equanimity is in the middle." Tranquility is the tranquility of happiness, and non-tranquility is suffering, which is what was just said. And here it is said that it is "in the middle," therefore it is mentioned that it is "neither tranquility nor non-tranquility."
