I say that the faculties are the paths of application, seeing, liberation, and distinction, etc. Because there is no faculty there, the third would also become the faculty of omniscience. They say that, but those are also not contradictory as faculties because they are of the same kind as this, like the faculty of the unborn. If only accomplished actions are considered faculties, then later aspects of life would not be faculties, because there is no common connection of the same kind. Therefore, it is said to be the cause for the application of names. The application of names also applies to kāraṇavāye, just like the name of a cow. Even if that is not the cause of existence, it applies to others, because it is so famous there, so there is no fault. Liberation applies to the kāraṇa (cause, action, harm) of correctly experiencing joy and happiness separately. Yāgeya is the lower realm. The so-called "return" is that liberation is abandoning afflictions. Joy is mental happiness. Happiness is the happiness of extreme pliancy. Liberation correctly experiencing joy and happiness is that the joy and happiness of liberation can be correctly experienced. Ācārya Samghabhadra says that this cannot be another synonym. The wisdom without outflows, apart from direct perception, can also function before the direct perception of truth. The direct perception of truth can certainly liberate from the faults of afflictions, the second fault is destroyed by direct perception, abiding in happiness in the visible dharma, and the third, that is to say, there, because of doubt, the wisdom of direct perception does not have direct perception, so the paths of liberation from direct perception become not faculties. The forbearance of the path-following knowledge and the path-following unknown, because there is no direct perception. From direct perception, the path-following knowledge also becomes the faculty of omniscience. Because what is said is uncertain, the direct perception of seeing the path is certain, because it is wisdom and direct perception. If only non-direct perception is spoken of there, then would the forbearances become not faculties? Wisdom and forbearance are of an uncertain nature.
