It is not knowledge itself to know that one has power over two things that are not causes. In that case, it is not contradictory to have power over the complete protection of the body. According to some, only consciousness sees and hears; according to those, it is contradictory for the eyes and ears to have power over the protection of the body. Therefore, it is widely stated that there is no seeing of form or hearing of sound other than consciousness, and therefore, "therefore," etc. If it is said that the eye sees and the ear hears, that is also said to be seeing and hearing because it is the nature of the support of consciousness. Therefore, it will not exercise power over it, because what exists in the act of seeing, etc., does not exist at the time of the act. Saying "because of seeing form" is no different from mentioning form, etc., and mentioning form, etc., is also by consciousness itself. It is not that form, etc., is seen by something other than consciousness. For the beauty of the body, only the support has power, but not the senses, because it is beyond the senses. This is also because it has already been said that "only the word of the support" is for the meaning of making beautiful things and the meaning of words, so it is not closely arranged. The nose, etc., also do not completely protect the body, because the senses also fully enjoy food that can cause harm. The mind sense also does not enter into connecting the next life in a way that is in accordance with the nature of power, because the next life is connected by the power of karma and afflictions, and the noble ones do not enter by its power. To this, it is said, "Are things also not exercising power?" Just as there is no object without a sense, so it is without things. However, it is like a sense. For it, it is not to exercise power over the meaning of exercising power. To do something especially and primarily is to exercise power, and exercising power and being primary are synonymous. Being primary itself is the meaning of being the master because its cause and effect arise in relation, so it is not to exercise power especially, because there is no special exercise of power for it. Again, what is the meaning of not exercising power especially? The answer is, "For all forms are objects."

Because it is subordinate, it is called following after clarity and non-clarity, etc. The word "etc." includes following after disturbance and non-disturbance, reason and non-reason. Because it is the opposite of this, it is said that form is not, because all forms are objects of perception, just like the eye, form is not, because believing in the common cause, and the certain form is the cause of the object of perception, so the function of clarity and non-clarity does not apply to that object of perception. Therefore, the master of form, etc., is not form. Likewise, the master of mind and dharmas also applies. The ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind are particularly the masters of sound, smell, taste, touch, and dharmas as objects of perception, because all sounds, etc., are the common cause of objects of perception. Because it is conditioned by following after clarity and non-clarity, etc., so the opposite of this, sound, etc., are not, because in that case, the same would become non-sense faculties. The teacher Sangharakshita says that this is not reasonable, because the same do not have mastery, because they do not produce consciousness. If asked: Then, because other causes are not complete? To this, there is no fault of becoming non-sense faculties, because it is a kind with a basis, so that is also called a sense faculty. If it were not so, then the mind free from desire in the three realms, when connecting to existence again, because it does not have an entry that conforms to the nature of the sense faculty, it would become a non-sense faculty. For the Vaibhashikas, it is inevitable that the same become non-sense faculties. It is also said that it is the master only because of the object of reliance, even if there are no other three, there is no fault in this. Even if only the place is taken as the basis, because it does not rely on non-sense faculties, it is difficult to avoid the fault of becoming non-sense faculties. What is said is that all eyes are not the common cause of all forms, because they are momentary. That is not so, because all eyes born or grown from maturation, in each moment, are all forms.
