Therefore, it is seen with one eye. If it were not so, when one eye is open and the second is half-closed, one would not grasp two moons. Because one sees grasping two moons with one eye half-closed or open, it is certain that both eyes have an effect there. Manifesting multiple things can be given as an example. In order to manifest that similar things are two, it is expressed with the word "in order to manifest." The half-open and closed eyes grasp two moons, because they change following the change of the support, therefore it is said to be the support of both. It is not the other eye, but it becomes other, therefore the support of grasping two moons does not change. If both eyes see, because the support is interrupted, the consciousness is also interrupted, just like the eye faculty of one sentient being's one eye, there would be the fault of having two consciousnesses in one instant. The body consciousness is also not interrupted, it is the support of the body's root. Therefore, only one eye sees, not two eyes, because the entry is swift, it is only there that arrogance manifests, that it is said that two eyes see. Therefore, it is said extensively, "because the support is interrupted." Why? Because the object does not remain. The eye consciousness, like a pulley and sandalwood, dwells in the eye with the nature of support and supported, those change, so they also change, therefore it is said that the eye is its support. Therefore, because it depends on one support, and the object does not remain, even if the eyes are wide open, there is no contradiction in generating one consciousness, let alone saying it is two eyes. For example, when two hands simultaneously gather the warm touch, the body consciousness arises individually without interruption, if it is determined by refutation, there will be no fault, that is, one hand also generates multiple consciousnesses. Those who say that the causes and conditions of all things arise simultaneously or sequentially, let them ask for a moment, why does the consciousness of the right eye arise, but the consciousness of the other eye does not? If one says the nature of uncommon cause, object, and result, then when seeing with the eyes, there will also be the fault that multiple limbs generate consciousness. If everything is without difference, then on one atom

Relying is also not permissible, because there is no special reason, and the support of that which does not reside in the object is completely severed, so it is completely severed. Like form, this is a negative example. If the mind and mental factors that do not reside in the object, how can they be the form that is the support of the eye sense, and separately cognize the respective eye consciousness? If the support of that consciousness arises from the eye, is there no contradiction between it and it not residing there? Because of the non-commonality of arising, there is no proximate cause, so it is said to be a place and a support. If it is not said at that time, then it becomes said at that time to be its support, like the reliance on grain. Because it is seen that Deva relies on the king and dwells. If it is because of following the benefit and harm to the senses that it dwells there, that is not the case. Because shadows and light and images and so on, and trees and so on, also dwell there, because following is seen. Just as the ocean follows the waxing and waning of the moon, these do not dwell there, because the senses entering the object is the same, consciousness does not grasp the lump of flesh, the eyelashes and tweezers that drive away beings, because the part becomes close, and does not reside in the object of the senses. For the same reason, the object also does not grasp the color of the end of the kalpa. If it is not like that, who would hinder the object from grasping the color of the end of the kalpa? If because it is the object of the senses, the eye of consciousness grasps the lump of flesh, then where it is not the object of color, it will not grasp it. Therefore, the consciousness of those dharmas does not grasp the near and far of its support and so on, because it is the object of the non-common cause. Others say that the result of mind and mental factors is like sprouts and so on. For images and so on, it is said to be multilateral. Just as the object of the non-common fruit, for that which belongs to its continuum, consciousness and mind are also not the object of the eye and so on, because that is not the continuum of consciousness, therefore, the reliance on the senses is also complete.
