Because the place is good. What is having few desires? Not being particularly attached to good or many things like Dharma robes. What is being content? Always being content with just getting bad things like Dharma robes. What is completely abandoning many things? Completely abandoning evil deeds such as buying and selling, and being too close with householders and renunciants, practicing medicine, calculating stars, etc. What is pure morality? Both sets of vows, including both natural and co-emergent faults, are not violated, and even if they are broken due to carelessness, one quickly regrets and acts according to the Dharma. This and so on were said. What is abandoning thoughts of desire, etc.? For all desires, thinking that the faults of this life and the next will come in many ways, one should abandon thoughts about them. Also, whether the objects of samsara are pleasing or displeasing, thinking that if I and all those things are separated without much delay, what would I be attached to? Thinking like this, one should abandon thoughts. This was said. Those retinues of calm abiding are, in short, two: some are shown from the aspect of negation, and some are spoken from the aspect of accomplishment. Again, there are two retinues of calm abiding: outer and inner. The outer is a pleasing place. It is also said to dwell in a suitable place. The inner is non-attachment and pure morality. It is said, "One enters manifestly joyfully without worldly attachment." It is also said that the morality of vows performs the function of settling the mind. It is said that an enhanced mind arises from relying on enhanced morality, and that by abiding in morality, one obtains samadhi. This was said. It is also said that morality is the cause of samadhi, and that one quickly obtains samadhi without afflictions, which is the benefit of pure morality. This was said. If one is negligent in morality, one will regret it later, and regret will disturb the mind, so because one wants the fruit of samadhi, one respectfully protects the cause of morality. What is the characteristic of the object to be known? Here, the Tathagata

It is necessary to know the characteristics of the body image of Śamatha and so on. This also includes strong attachment, hatred, delusion, pride, and conceptualization, as well as those who are largely equal and those with minor afflictions. The last two consider whether it is good or not. If one has heard much or is guided by instructions, everyone thinks that it is good to focus on it for a while. The signs of conceptualization and so on, the methods of measuring them, the objects of focus, and the methods of meditation are clear from the Hearer's Ground. From where is it said that the object of focus is pleasing to the ear? In the Noble King of Samadhi Sutra, it is said: "With a body like the color of gold, the Protector of the World is completely adorned. Whoever places their mind on this object of focus, that Bodhisattva is called Samadhi." It is said. Also, in the Samadhi of the Buddha who is presently dwelling, it is said: "After hearing about the body color, hand gestures, seat, and great qualities of the Thus-Gone One Amitabha, if one looks to the west with a joyful mind and meditates, it will appear clearly." This also appears initially in a dream. For example, it is said that it is like a merchant's son hearing about a prostitute with a very ugly appearance and dreaming of seeing or meeting her that night. Some people think that if one focuses on the Thus-Gone One who is presently dwelling, it will appear, but not if one focuses on the one who has passed away. In the Noble King of Samadhi Sutra, it is said: "The Thus-Gone One who has passed away, as one thinks of him, so does the image appear." It is said. Furthermore, one might wonder if there is no focus on painted images and so on. In the Sutra, a merchant's son thought about a fully complete painted image of the Thus-Gone One's body, "If the image is like this, what need is there to mention seeing one's own face?" Immediately after thinking this, he sat in a place that had not been cleaned, and with a joyful mind, he looked without blinking and meditated, and it is said that he attained the first through fourth dhyanas and so on. Others say that there is no certainty about the object of focus for a while, so it is said that it is sufficient to focus on any object such as a vase. Although it is like that, however, for a moment
