And, not being able to clearly understand what has been done, what is being done, and what will be done one by one, thinking about what is not thought about, universally contemplating what is impermanent, desiring what is not desired, perceiving what does not arise as arising, perceiving what is not virtuous as virtuous, perceiving what is not the path as the path, perceiving what has not been attained as attained, being attached to immediate affairs, being distracted by bad deeds, extensively abandoning the virtuous side, not praising the Great Vehicle and speaking of its faults, praising the Hearer Vehicle and speaking of its merits, not praising those who have faith in the Great Vehicle and speaking of their faults, praising those who have faith in the Hearer Vehicle and speaking of their merits, being fond of arguing, having a quarrelsome nature, being rude, being rough, having male reproductive dysfunction, being overly rash, being fierce, being malicious, having unpleasant speech, being garrulous, speaking disrespectfully, speaking with bad words, lying, being particularly fond of elaborate matters, indulging in elaborate matters, these are faults, thus it is said. From that (sutra) it is also said, all those assemblies should be completely abandoned. All the hustle and bustle should be completely abandoned. Being fond of talking, and the discriminations of desire, the discriminations of harmful thoughts, the discriminations of harmful intentions, and all the discriminations of views should be completely abandoned. Wanting the benefit of knowledge, wanting fame, wanting gain, all of these should be completely abandoned. Therefore, being completely secluded in body and mind, one becomes skilled in mind. Therefore, regarding the mind, he thinks like this: Is my mind acting virtuously, or is it not acting virtuously? Or is it unclassified? Which dharma is it acting upon? Thus he examines. If it acts virtuously, then for this, the mind generates joy, happiness, and satisfaction. So, what are those virtuous dharmas? For example, the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment. If it acts unvirtuously, then for this, more regret and more discriminations arise, and one strives to abandon those unvirtuous dharmas. So, what are the unvirtuous dharmas? For example, greed, hatred, and delusion. Among them, greed

It should be understood as three types: great, medium, and small. Among these, what is great attachment? It is that which pervades the entire body, with the mind completely grasping and abiding. For those who are immersed in it and unable to attain a mind free from attachment, and who, being immersed in it, have absolutely no shame or hesitation whatsoever. How can one be completely without shame or hesitation? It is when one goes alone in secret, the mind completely grasping and abiding, repeatedly contemplating it, longing for it intensely, and even viewing it as a virtue. In this way, there is no shame in it. How can one be without hesitation? It is when, with this as the cause, this as the condition, and this as the basis, one argues, refutes, and opposes others such as parents or teachers, without feeling ashamed, and even viewing it as a virtue. In this way, there is no hesitation or shame in it. With this as the cause, this as the condition, and this as the basis, one will be reborn in the lower realms. This is called great attachment. What is medium attachment? It is when one relies on desires, depending on them until the task is accomplished. After the task is completed, one attains a mind free from attachment, and then experiences regret, and attains a mind that does not conceal anything. This is called medium attachment. What is small attachment? It is when, even if one relies on desires, one is satisfied merely by smelling, anointing, bodily contact, or merely by words, or merely by seeing. This is called small attachment. In short, having an attachment to all the necessities of life is called attachment. What is hatred? Hatred should also be understood as three types: great, medium, and small. Among these, what is great hatred? It is the aspect of hatred, with which one becomes fierce, angry, and violent due to hatred, thereby committing any of the five inexpiable sins, or abandoning the sacred Dharma. What one has done even surpasses the accumulation of the five inexpiable sins. It cannot be approached in number, calculation, metaphor, or cause, even half of that. With this as the cause, this as the condition, and this as the basis, the body is destroyed.
