Therefore, there is no contradiction. If explained by reasoning, the meaning of the scriptures cannot be diverted elsewhere. Therefore, one should hear the reasoning that demonstrates the absence of self in persons and the absence of self in phenomena. If asked whether one who understands these two understands the profound meaning of the Great Vehicle, the answer is that they understand it very well. As it is said, in the "Holy Lankavatara Sutra": In the reality of the two selflessnesses, all the Great Vehicle is contained. Thus it is said. Among them, the reasoning for the absence of self in persons is, as the Holy Nagarjuna said in the "Fearless Treatise": If a person transmigrates, then in the aggregates, sense bases, and elements, if sought in five ways, if it does not exist, then what will transmigrate? If one thinks that a person transmigrates, that is extremely unreasonable. Why? Because the aggregates, elements, and sense bases, are they those themselves? Or are they different from them? Or do they contain it? Or does it contain them? Or is it associated with them? If sought in five ways, because it does not exist, therefore it does not exist, what will transmigrate? Thus it is said. The reasoning for the absence of self in phenomena is, as the teacher Glorious Secret said in the "Entering Suchness": All that dwells outside and inside, in reality has no self-nature, the very nature of one and many, being separate, is like an image. Whatever is separate from the nature of one and many, that in ultimate reality has no self-nature, for example, like an image. All these things that dwell outside and inside also have no self-nature because they are separate from one and many. Thus it is said. Although this reasoning pervades everything, here, for the time being, it is grasped by the reasoning that demonstrates the absence of self in phenomena. Among them, are these colored phenomena that appear as external objects existing by their own nature separate from the mind? Or does the mind itself appear as such, like the appearance of cities, mountains, and people, etc., in a dream state? It should be considered that the mind itself appears as such. As it is said, the Bhagavan said in the "Holy Lankavatara Sutra": There is no real object, it is only the mind, seeing external objects is a delusion, those who truly see with reason, will cease the grasped and the grasper. Thus it is said. Arya Deva also said: The root of existence is the mind itself, objects are the realm of its activity.

Oh! After seeing the selflessness of places, one can turn away the mind, which is the root of existence. So it is said. The meaning of those words has already been explained thousands of times without error by scholars who are masters of words. So, what is the need to mention them here? It is true, but for beginners who have heard little, who have not been guided by a virtuous friend, and who rely only on their own meager faith and diligence, having generated a little experience of abiding in the mind, they hate the words of the wise, seeing them as lamps. And they also say, "What is the use of these words? That is just staying within the Dharma, it does not bring benefit, what I have experienced is the truth." Thus, they boast with words that are unrelated to meaning, and they show off everywhere, warning others not to comment rashly, lest they be slandered. They use this to please honest and kind people among householders and renunciates, and these people praise them endlessly. But the wise ignore this, which causes them to become arrogant, and they may even ruin their own yoga. Furthermore, if others practice as they say, they will also become wrong practice. As it is said, Master Asanga said that the situation of losing yoga due to counteracting wrong practice is like this: For example, some people diligently practice not according to the right path, so not only will they not achieve yoga, but they will also not obtain the virtuous Dharma of reason. This is because this person has many afflictions, has a strong nature of desire, has obscured consciousness, and has wisdom that arises together with sharp intelligence. This person either hears very little, or can remember a lot, and can even understand everything that is heard. They teach the Dharma to practitioners living in secluded places, householders, strict renunciates, and honest and kind people, and they please others with bodily and verbal behavior that conforms to the path of hypocrisy. Due to these causes and conditions, they will receive offerings and respect. They think that they have obtained great merit, Dharma robes, food, bedding, cushions, medicine and supplies. Even among kings, ministers and merchants, they are known as Arhats and are respected.
