It is called "Tenpa." Thus it is said. Some say that the Madhyamikas meditate on emptiness to the extreme, even making the mind disappear, and take emptiness as the sole object, but that way one cannot attain enlightenment. The view of the noble Nagarjuna is that one meditates on one's own mind, which is not established as either existent or non-existent, and is primordially pure, and that is how one attains enlightenment. To this, I say: Madhyamika is what was said by the noble Nagarjuna, and the Tathagata also said in the Lankavatara Sutra: "After my Nirvana, in the southern land of Vaiti, there will be a monk named Glorious and Greatly Renowned, whose name will be called Naga, destroying the extremes of existence and non-existence, in the world he will propagate my doctrine, the unsurpassed Great Vehicle, he will perfectly explain it, having attained the Joyful Ground, he will go to the Pure Land of Bliss, he will become a holder of discipline, he will appear after time has passed, Great Wisdom, you should know." Thus it is said, prophesying the destruction of the extremes of existence and non-existence, and the truthful explanation of the Great Vehicle. And the previous teachers, such as Kamalashila, also said that they clarified the Prajnaparamita, therefore, it is impossible to teach something that is not a cause of enlightenment within Madhyamika. Taking emptiness as the sole object is not mentioned in any Madhyamika treatise, so why be confused? If it is said that because it teaches the non-arising of the mind, it is called emptiness, then this is actually practicing Cittamatra, because one believes in the tenets taught for gradual guidance, so it is true, let it be set aside for now. It is not like that, but rather it follows the view of the noble Nagarjuna, which does not meditate on the existence or non-existence of the mind. If it is said, is that saying that the mind is not established as existent or non-existent in the ultimate sense? Or is it that it is not established as existent or non-existent even in the conventional sense? If it is the former, then the Madhyamikas also do not meditate on the mind as being either existent or non-existent in the ultimate sense, that is Yoga-acara-Madhyamika, there is no difference at all. If it is the latter, then, is it saying that non-existence is not established? Or is it that it does not exist even in the conventional sense, this has not been said in the sutras and treatises, and one does not want to consider whether non-existence is correct or incorrect, like the mind of the son of a barren woman. Therefore,

From the perspective of ultimate truth, if one views the mind as empty, that is also an imputation. If one views it as existent, that is also an imputation, and one should view it as neither existent nor non-existent. If one views it in that way, that is also an imputation. Even if one views it as without outflows, that is also an imputation. The term "primordially pure" is spoken in reference to the Dharma, not in reference to the Dharmadhatu. As it is said in the "Lankavatara Sutra," when Mahamati asked, the Blessed One spoke of the Tathagatagarbha in other sutras, saying that the Tathagatagarbha is naturally luminous, pure, and primordially pure, possessing the thirty-two marks, and existing within the bodies of sentient beings. The Blessed One's precious jewel, of great value, is like being completely wrapped in a dirty cloth, wrapped in the cloth of the skandhas, dhatus, and ayatanas, oppressed by desire, hatred, and ignorance, and stained by the dirt of complete conceptualization. If it is said to be permanent, stable, and enduring, then what difference is there between the Tathagatagarbha spoken of by the Blessed One and the "self" spoken of by the heretics? Blessed One, the heretics also speak of permanence, qualities, and no distinction, thus proclaiming the "self." The Blessed One replied: Mahamati, my teaching of the Tathagatagarbha is not the same as the "self" spoken of by the heretics. Mahamati, the Tathagatas, Arhats, and Samyaksambuddhas teach the Tathagatagarbha in relation to the meaning of words such as emptiness, suchness, nirvana, unborn, signless, and wishless. In order to have children abandon the place where they become frightened by selflessness, they teach the door of the Tathagatagarbha, thereby revealing the place of non-discrimination, the realm of imageless conduct. Therefore, Mahamati, future and present Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas should not cling to the notion of "self." Mahamati, for example, a potter uses a lump of clay,
