Thus it is said. Some say, "One should negate existence and meditate on non-existence." To them I say, "Is that a dharma such as the skandhas?" If they say, "Yes," then, is that non-existence the ultimate truth or the conventional truth? If they say it is the ultimate truth, then it is the meditation on the Perfection of Wisdom, since all dharmas are inconceivable and without mind. In the Sutra of the Display of the Accumulation of Jewels, Manjushri asked, "That which does not abide in anything, that is the meditation on the Perfection of Wisdom." As it is said, that is also contradictory. That non-existence is the ultimate truth after negating existence is not found in any Sutra. Non-existence is not the ultimate truth, as it is said, the noble Nagarjuna said: "If things are not established, then the non-existence of things will not be established. When a thing has changed into something else, people say that the thing is non-existent." Thus it is said. Who are the people who say that? They are the Vaisheshikas and others. Thus it is said, the venerable Kumaralabdha said: "In milk, there is no yogurt, etc.; that is said to be non-existent from the beginning. In yogurt, there is no milk; that is the characteristic of being non-existent after disintegration. The limb of the head is oval, and beans and peas, etc., are abandoned. The horns of a rabbit, etc., are actually there; that is said to be permanently non-existent. On a cow, there are no horses, etc.; that is said to be one lacking the other." Thus he said. Which of those do you think it is? Whatever you accept is not the nature of reality. If you say that it is conventional non-existence, then that contradicts direct perception, so let us put aside for a while what the slanderers say. Therefore, who can refute those who speak of things that are not included in the two truths and contradict the Buddha's words and the treatises? Some say that by meditating on the false and flawed conventional truth, non-conceptual wisdom arises. To them I say, why do you call it the false and flawed conventional truth? If you say that because persons and dharmas are not established by reason, this appearance is false and conventional, then, since the mere fact that persons and dharmas are not established by reason is the ultimate truth, meditate on that. If it cannot be established, why do you call it conventional? That is merely the kind of true appearance. Furthermore, the Shravaka Sutrantikas and the Vaibhashikas

Therefore, they do not consider aggregation to be substantially existent either. Since you claim to be a Madhyamika, do you familiarize yourself with aggregation through the knowledge of reasoning? If seeing the truth comes from familiarizing with it, then all children would see the truth. As the noble Nagarjuna said: If, like children, things are examined and thereby become true, then why are those non-things not desired? What is the reason? Generally, whatever is familiar becomes its nature, like being attached to things. Those who familiarize themselves with existence and non-existence also become their nature. This is the reason of nature. Therefore, it does not transcend the state of ordinary beings. As the teacher himself said: One is not liberated by existence, nor is one freed from this existence by non-existence. Again, it is said: Ordinary beings, possessors of substantiality, are controlled by afflictions due to the fault of inversion in existence and non-existence, and are deceived by their own minds. It is also said: Those of small intellect who, regarding things, view them as either existent or non-existent, do not see the object to be seen, which is near and peaceful, like the blind. Some say: There is no self-nature. The so-called absence of self-nature is meditating on a state beyond the mind. To those people, I say: Is that the ultimate truth or the conventional truth? If you say it is the ultimate truth, then whatever has parts is not the ultimate truth, like a pot. The recitation of 'no self-nature' with the mind also has parts, therefore, through the reason of nature, it can be proven that it is not the ultimate truth, because it contradicts the conventional truth or generality. If you say that the reason is uncertain on the subject to be proven, that is, it is not established, then this is what you should say about the absence of self-nature. Since it cannot abide in meaning, if one becomes familiar with expression, then the meaning of the expression will appear once. Since this has been admitted, the end of expression is the letter, and that generality is also a conceptualization with parts. Or it is its own characteristic. That is also the eight sources of sound, such as the lips.
