It is said that if someone says, "Before (afflictions) are subdued by the discordant self, practicing antidotes will only lead to falling into the lower realms, etc. Afterwards, one will also begin to learn non-virtue, etc." Therefore, the teacher Nagarjuna said in the Root Verses on the Middle Way: "If one views emptiness incorrectly, then those with little wisdom will be destroyed, just like grasping a snake incorrectly, or practicing secret mantras incorrectly." Also, in the Sixty Stanza Reasoning, it says: "If one does not understand the meaning of emptiness, but only engages in hearing, those inferior beings who do not accumulate merit will be destroyed." If someone says, "I have great wisdom and also accumulate merit, so I am not afraid of afflictions," this is also unreasonable. In the Holy Ten Bhumi Sutra, it also says: "The bodhisattva of the second bhumi abides in pure morality and knowingly dwells in even the slightest transgressions." To say that one has great wisdom just because one abides on a bhumi is extremely arrogant. Therefore, in the relative truth, if antidotes have not arisen, even if one remains neutral towards afflictions, they will increase, let alone actively embracing them? Therefore, indulging in afflictions and abandoning practice is not the behavior of an ordained bodhisattva. As the Holy Manjushri Play Sutra says: "Manjushri said: 'Ordination depends on morality; if morality is corrupted, then there is no meaning to ordination at all.'" Also, that sutra says: "If one oneself upholds the precepts and pure morality, and also causes beings with corrupted morality to abide in the discipline and asceticism of morality, that is an ordained bodhisattva." Therefore, even if one understands emptiness but is defeated by afflictions, that is not a bodhisattva. In that sutra, the daughter said: "Manjushri, for example, an arhat is not called a hero. Manjushri, similarly, one who is conquered by afflictions is not called a bodhisattva." What are the benefits of practicing after having great wisdom and realizing emptiness? In the Moon Lamp Sutra, it says: At that time

Furthermore, the Sugatas do not abandon other trainings. The hero will no longer be dominated by women. And so on. It is also said in the Noble Dharma Sarva Samgraha: For example, being with darkness is not a lamp. Similarly, being with afflictions is not the wisdom of a Bodhisattva. Thus it is said. It is also said in the Noble Jewel Crown Sutra: The yoga of emptiness should not be separated from generosity to wisdom. Thus it is said. It is also said in the Compendium of Trainings: After practicing the Prajnaparamita, one should be skilled in the sound of afflictions and means, but do not act like a hero in one's own home. Thus it is said. Therefore, although the Bodhisattva himself has great wisdom, he is defeated by afflictions, and because of lack of faith, he is lazy in the trainings. If one says this, it is like holding onto a wrong path and causing wounds to the Dharma, which is unreasonable. Holding only to discipline as sufficient, and wisdom only understands one aspect, refuting these, briefly explaining, this is the summarizing verse. Among them, there are two kinds of wrong discrimination regarding differences: wrong discrimination regarding view and wrong discrimination regarding practice. Among them, wrong discrimination regarding view is that some say that the two truths are not established in things, for example, whatever is unborn is non-dual, like space. The two truths are unborn from the beginning and are pure and non-dual, they say. To this it should be said: If you establish non-duality in the ultimate truth, then you are establishing what is already established. If you establish it generally, then it is not established as a reason, because it contradicts direct perception. The unborn do not have suffering, so can you endure being stabbed with a sword? It should be said like this. Some say that the ultimate truth does not exist, only the conventional truth is the only one, they say. To this it should be said: If this is said in conjunction with the thoughts of a child blinded by ignorance, or if this is said in accordance with the reality of things, or if this is said with the thoughts of a wise person. If according to the first case, then the two are not established, because the ultimate truth is not heard, thought, or practiced by the person who teaches it, so wisdom
