Due to considering dullness as a very great fault, attachment is strong, and the component of calm abiding is dominant, so it is like the darkness of night. Although one does not know what state the body is in, when one begins to rise from samadhi due to the power of previous effort, it feels rough and tense, as if it is difficult to break. The second case is that although there is no distraction at the beginning, sometimes there is a fear of falling into dullness because it is not clear, so at the time of rising, there also arises the thought of wanting to increase the component of insight. Even in the state of meditative equipoise, because of increasing the power of subtle clarity, sometimes, like the sun between the clouds, a clear and bright feeling arises. Due to this power, even when meditating at night, one wonders if it is dawn and opens one's eyes to look. As soon as one thinks of rising, one feels as if the body is bound. However, one also feels roughness, peace and softness, and smoothness. Some characteristics are the same as before. The third case is that clarity always arises. However, just as when a candle is about to go out, even if there is no wind, it will sway on its own, swaying and doubt arise. Some characteristics are the same as before. The fourth case is that because it was very clear before, sometimes one considers swaying to be a fault, so one focuses on the particularity of the object, for example, like clear water filled in the shade of a white lead or silver container, without moving. Knowing that there is no difference in what is to be known, it is very open and unmoving, broad, and one cannot truly see what should be grasped or abandoned. One does not know whether the mind that realizes this arises at this moment or focuses on what. Because one cannot realize it in any way, there is no difference, the taste is the same. This is because of what power, the mind is upright and stable, certain and without doubt, and broad. Due to the power of having no body, the tactile sensation is soft and light. Although it is neither high nor low, existing broadly, there is no danger of falling. Even when looking at things lower than a shell, no matter from which angle one looks, one does not know that one is meditating. Therefore, even if one wants to rise, it is difficult to rise, and if one makes an effort to rise, one feels that the body has suddenly appeared. Some characteristics are the same as before. This fourth case is temporarily the mind of a beginner Bodhisattva abiding through inference.

It is to be known. Thus it is said, in the Holy Dharma Sarva-samgraha Sutra, the son of the gods, Good Mind, asked: "Lord, how does a Bodhisattva abide?" The Lord replied: "Son of the gods, when a Bodhisattva is free from all desires of the mind, and does not see any dharma as something to be taken or abandoned, and whatever is not seen, sees that as emptiness and not reality. Thus, it is called the abiding of a Bodhisattva." Thus it is said. It is also said in the Sutra Requested by King Srenika: "The ultimate truth is not different, but all are of one taste and one nature, which is the Buddha-nature. Those who have many different thoughts about this, are deluded because they are attached to pride." Thus it is said. It is also said in the Holy Sutra on the Complete Purification of Karmic Obscurations: "Bhikkhus, all dharmas are abandoned because they are initially unattainable. Bhikkhus, all dharmas are non-existent because they are devoid of everything. Bhikkhus, all dharmas are unattainable because they are like the body of space and the emptiness of annihilation." Thus it is said. It is also said in the Holy King of Samadhi Sutra: "There is no wandering of discrimination, all wrong views are exhausted, wisdom is also well decided, conduct is like the sky." Thus it is said. Collection, teaching, element adjustment, mind examination, diligence, short sessions, gradual increase in meditation, the four stages of its clear increase, the fourth teaching is explained by four. This is the verse of summary. The method of increasing clarity has been shown. What is the increase of long sessions? When the increase of clarity has arisen and has not diminished, in order to remove the diminution, the increase of long sessions should be practiced. Why? Because the mind dwells a little and the body is a little comfortable, one can practice for a long time. However, if one thinks and meditates, disregarding day and night, the body becomes stiff, the mind becomes dull, one is overcome by sleep, one is not clear, the heart-air rises and falls, both wind and blood arise, and one experiences suffering. For example, if the wind can only travel a little, one thinks that the body can travel up and down all day, but without reaching the place where one can travel, the body becomes uncomfortable and the mind is harmed.
