If there is attachment to the external body, then in this way, decompose it, rot it, have worms eat it, think about it, devour it, redden it, scatter it, and contemplate it as a pile of bones, or a skeleton, or a skeleton of bones, and thus it will be pacified. Or, as it is said in the Holy King of Samadhi Sutra: "Whoever with a mind of desire, attends to a decaying woman, beings will go to decay, therefore they will go to evil destinies." It should be pacified by remembering this. If, due to anger, harmful thoughts arise and the mind is distracted, then cultivate loving-kindness, wishing all sentient beings happiness, or pacify it by remembering the faults of harmful thoughts. As it is said in the Loving-Kindness Lion's Roar Sutra: "For a Bodhisattva, merely generating hatred or malice, during that time, one must put on the armor of hell." In the Holy Manjushri Play Sutra, it is also said: "Anger, anger, Manjushri, it destroys the roots of virtue accumulated for hundreds of thousands of kalpas, therefore it is called anger." In the Holy Moon Lamp Sutra, it is also said: "Whoever has a mind to harm each other, discipline and hearing will not protect him, meditation and solitary places will not protect him, giving and offerings to the Buddha will not protect him either." If one is distracted by remembering relatives, lands, thoughts of immortality, past laughter, play, and enjoyment of happiness, then one should remember that all conditioned things are impermanent and suffering. Or, as it is said in the Holy Extensive Play Sutra: "The three realms are ablaze with the suffering of old age and disease, there is no protector in this blazing place of immortality, beings are always deluded in samsara, like a bee trapped in a vase. Always attached to beautiful forms, pleasant sounds, fragrant smells, delicious tastes, and comfortable touches, these beings are caught in the trap of evil times, like a monkey caught in a hunter's trap." And so forth, pacify it with this. If one is distracted by regret and doubt, remembering the profound Dharma will pacify it. If one is distracted by displeasure, this is also a side of excitement, so it should be dispelled.
