This, may I not have immature karmic results. Thus dedicate. Now, adjust the body, sit in the lotus position on a bed, small bed, grass mat, or comfortable cushion. Why is this? In order to truly see five reasons. If the body is upright, this behavior is very conducive to the arising of diligence, therefore diligence arises quickly, quickly. Similarly, sitting like this can last a long time, and this behavior will not make the body too tired. Similarly, this behavior is different from other non-Buddhists and external challengers. Similarly, if others see this behavior, they will generate great joy. Similarly, this behavior is praised and relied upon by the Buddhas. Because these five reasons are truly seen, sit in the lotus position, keep the body upright, and abide in mindfulness. What is an upright body? The body is upright, stretched out and abiding, the mind is unwavering, and abiding upright without artificiality. Therefore, with the body completely upright, it will not cause the mind of dullness and sleep to arise and abide. The mind is unwavering and without artificiality, so it will not cause outward distractions to arise and abide. Therefore, abiding in mindfulness, what is abiding? Corresponding to proper attention, turning away from all dark sides, because it is inconsistent, it is called mindfulness. Then, keep the shoulders level, the head neither too high nor too low, not tilting to one side, straight from the nose to the navel. Do not open too much, nor close too much, focus on the tip of the nose. The teeth and lips should also be placed naturally. The tongue should also be placed against the upper gums. Exhaling and inhaling should also not be loud or heavy, not hurried, but as imperceptibly as possible, slowly and naturally inhaling and exhaling. What is the connecting wisdom? As soon as the breath is steady, think: Three realms of existence

These miserable sentient beings have not realized the suchness of all dharmas, but instead misunderstand it, and because they are not accustomed to suchness, they have not realized that non-conceptual wisdom that manifests suchness, the most excellent of the three bodies. I must, in any way, without reversing it, constantly and for a long time respectfully cultivate that dharmata, obtain that wisdom, and also let other beings obtain that wisdom that manifests suchness, I think in this way. What is that suchness? All dharmas are neither established as existent in the ultimate truth, nor are they established as non-existent. Therefore, it is not established in either of the two. There is nothing that is not both. As it is said: 'Manjushri, from abiding, that conduct is without elaboration and peaceful. It does not accept "existent," nor does it accept "non-existent," it does not accept "both existent and non-existent," nor does it accept "neither existent nor non-existent."' Therefore, nothing is found with the wisdom of thought. Only on that, the suchness is established and spoken of with the meaning of non-other. Therefore, it should be remembered that even just suchness is not truly established. On that, how to settle the mind? After remembering that just suchness is not established, immediately guard the mind and consciousness very carefully, and do not follow all the words that show profundity, such as "this is called the dharmata of the object," or "called the dharmata of the mind," or "suchness," or "inconceivable realm," or "nothing at all," or "ultimate truth," or "free from all elaboration," and so on. On that, what are the faults to be abandoned? In short, there are four: the fault of afflictions close at hand, the fault of not understanding the characteristics of shamatha and vipassana, the fault of not making predictions, and the fault of physical and mental discomfort. Abandoning them is declared in the chapters of each fault. On that, the afflictions close at hand are three: excitement, displeasure with the object, and dullness. On that, the nature of excitement is like a distracted person, or like a monkey, the mind does not abide on the object. Its causes are four: it is a lovely aspect, and acting
