and what is to be cultivated, and what is to be attained, are definitively shown here, therefore it is called "Unquestionable Meaning." The question "What is it?" is asking "What is that?" In order to show it, he said "For example," etc. "For example" means "These are just those." Starting from the five aggregates and up to the eighty minor marks, these twenty-six meanings, in order to show that the meaning of the sutra is completely fulfilled, the Buddha taught, "Monks, this is the teaching of the enumeration of the Unquestionable Meaning." Among them, from the five aggregates to the twenty-two faculties, the three things to be known, to be abandoned, and to be cultivated are shown. The characteristics of the dharmas that are not shown in the text should be known. The characteristics of what is unwholesome should be abandoned. The characteristics of what is wholesome should be cultivated. Among them, starting from the four dhyanas and up to the four limbs of entering the stream, the dharmas to be cultivated are shown. From the ten powers of the Tathagata up to the eighty minor marks, the dharmas to be attained are shown. Why is it necessary to show the condensed meaning? In order to generate the thought that "this sutra is neither more nor less than twenty-six meanings," and to eliminate slander. Or, in order for the disciples to easily understand the words and meanings and to easily retain them, the condensed meaning is mentioned. For example, just as a horse is first shown as a whole and then runs unimpeded, if the condensed meaning is understood first, then the disciples will easily understand the meaning of the parts later. Or, there are two kinds of disciples: one is tamed by brief exposition, and the other is tamed by detailed explanation. For those who are tamed by brief exposition, the condensed meaning is taught first. For those who are tamed by detailed explanation, he said, "For example, the aggregate of form," etc., explaining the meaning of the words in detail, and in order to conclude with the condensed meaning, he said, "Monks, this is," etc. Now is

Now, the meaning of it will be explained. Therefore, it was said, "Monks," and so on. "What are the five aggregates?" is the question. In order to explain as asked, it was said, "For example," and so on. The word "for example" sometimes indicates a metaphor, but in this case, the word "for example" is used to indicate the aggregates such as form. Therefore, the meaning of "for example" is: "These are the five aggregates." The aggregate of form and the aggregate of feeling, etc., indicate the unpolluted aggregates. Thus, there are two kinds of aggregates: the unpolluted aggregates and the polluted aggregates. Here, if we generally say "aggregate," how do we know that it refers to the unpolluted aggregates? It is knowable because it will be said below: "Monks, what are the five aggregates of grasping?" At that time, the polluted aggregates will be explicitly named, then the five aggregates mentioned earlier will clearly refer to the unpolluted aggregates. If it is not so, and both refer to the polluted aggregates, then the fault of repeating the polluted aggregates twice will occur. Then, what is the need to show the unpolluted aggregates here? If one sees that there is a place free from all suffering, and that there are unpolluted aggregates, then aversion will arise towards the polluted aggregates. Having arisen aversion, one will strive to abandon the polluted aggregates. Having strived, one will be able to abandon the aggregate of suffering. If the aggregate of suffering is abandoned, then the supreme bliss of Nirvana will be attained. Therefore, it is necessary to show the unpolluted aggregates. Then, what is the unpolluted aggregate of form? When a yogi enters into the eightfold noble path, whatever is unpolluted and non-manifesting form is the aggregate of form. At that time, the unpolluted feeling that arises in that very collection is the aggregate of feeling. Whatever thought exists in that very collection is the aggregate of thought. Or, the ten kinds of thoughts of the yogis are the aggregate of thought. These ten thoughts are: the thought of impermanence,
