Sixth, the term "grasping" is established through collection, and aggregates associated with afflictions are called grasping aggregates. For example, just as a fire of grass and chaff is called a grass fire or a chaff fire. It is said that whatever belongs to the category of sentient beings can be considered grasping aggregates because they arise from the cause of karma moistened by afflictions. How can external objects that do not belong to the category of sentient beings be called grasping aggregates? It is said that those also arise from grasping, so they can be called grasping aggregates, because it is said in the scriptures that "the world arises from various kinds of karma." Alternatively, aggregates that are in accordance with grasping are called grasping aggregates, like a king's attendant. For example, just as an attendant who acts in accordance with the king's commands is called the king's attendant, aggregates that are in accordance with afflictions are grasping aggregates, because by their power, the object and behavior are directed to other aspects. Or, among the aggregates, the aggregate from which afflictions arise is called the grasping aggregate, like a tree with flowers and fruits. For example, just as a tree that produces flowers and fruits is called a flower tree or a fruit tree, because afflictions arise from the aggregates, it is named the grasping aggregate. Mentioning "five" is to prevent addition or subtraction, because some people consider individually analyzed cessation, unanalyzed cessation, and space as aggregates. Mentioning aggregates is to prevent the five objects of sense, such as form and sound. Regarding the term "form grasping aggregate," there are two types of form: the four great elements and form derived from the four great elements. What are the four great elements? They are the earth element, the water element, the fire element, and the wind element. Among these, the nature of the earth element is hardness and roughness. The nature of the water element is moisture and wetness. The nature of the fire element is heat and warmth. The nature of the wind element is lightness and movement. Alternatively, the nature of the earth element is having odor. The nature of the water element is having taste. The nature of the fire element is form and

It is the nature of having abilities. The element of wind is the nature of sound and touch. Alternatively, firmness, heaviness, roughness, softness, and coarseness are the characteristics of the earth element. Wetness, heaviness, softness, coldness, and oiliness are the characteristics of the water element. Warmth, lightness, maturity, and heat are the characteristics of the fire element. Quickness, lightness, roughness, and movement are the characteristics of the wind element. What do these great elements do? The earth element acts as a support. The water element acts as a gathering. The fire element acts as a maturing. The wind element acts as a generating and increasing. Why are only four great elements mentioned, and not five or six, etc.? Because only four are needed as the cause for sprouting, so five or six, etc., are not mentioned. Among them, earth acts as the support for the seed. Water makes the seed moist. Fire makes the seed mature. Wind makes the seed grow and increase. Alternatively, the earth element is heavy in nature, so those with a greater proportion of earth element are heavy in body and sleepy, and if not awakened, they will become ill. The water element is wet in nature, so those with a greater proportion of water element will become phlegm, and if not treated with laxatives and emetics, they will become ill. The fire element is hot in nature, so those with a greater proportion of fire element will become bile, and if not nourished with food etc. in time of hunger, they will become ill. The wind element is moving, so those with a greater proportion of wind element, if not treated with oiling and massage etc., will become ill. Therefore, it will still become the four great elements. Some teachers say this. Then, why are space and feeling etc. not called great elements? It is said that "arising" means the meaning of arising. "Great" means the meaning of pervading, feeling etc. arise, but do not pervade, so they are not great. Space pervades, but does not arise, so it is not called a great element. Therefore, the meaning of arising is the meaning of arising from the actions of sentient beings, and the meaning of great is the meaning of pervading, so it is arising.
