Cessation is nirvana. The path that attains or bestows nirvana is called the path of liberation from the cessation of suffering, which is said to be the eightfold noble path, including right view, etc., mentioned below. Because this path is of a virtuous nature, it is called noble. Or, because this path is the antidote to afflictions, it is called noble. Or, it is called noble because it is the path taught by the noble ones. Or, because one becomes noble by abiding in this path, it is the noble path. This path eliminates afflictions, attains nirvana, is true and not false, is not inverted, and leads to the cessation of suffering, so it is called the noble truth of the path. The meaning of path can also be seeking, because this path allows yogis to seek nirvana and the fruits of asceticism, so it is called path. Alternatively, the meaning of path is going, just as in the world it is said that this path leads to the city of the heavens, the eightfold noble path also leads to the city of nirvana, so it is called path. In order to indicate what it actually is, it is said, "This is the eightfold noble path, including right view, etc." The right view mentioned here includes both worldly right view and transcendent right view. Because the word "noble" is mentioned here, it refers to the unpolluted right view, not the worldly right view, but the transcendent right view. The word "etc." also includes right thought and right speech, etc. Limb refers to a part or a helper, that is, eight parts, or the cause of attaining nirvana and the meaning of eight helpers. The phrase "this is it" means that the eightfold noble path will be explained in detail below. When explaining the truth of cessation, it is said that the complete cessation of craving is cessation. But here, when explaining the truth of the path, it is said to be the truth of the cessation of suffering. Someone says that this is a contradiction. To answer this question, it is said that if you extinguish a fire,

Just as sugarcane does not produce flowers, if the cause of the nature of craving is cut off, then the suffering of the nature of the result will also cease. Therefore, at the time of Nirvana, suffering will also disappear. Therefore, there is no fault in saying that suffering ceases. If the main part of a limb exists, then it can initially be called a limb. In the Eightfold Noble Path, what is the main part of a limb? These are called limbs. The answer is: Right View is both the main part of the path's limb and a limb itself. Therefore, the main part of a limb and a limb are divided into two types. The remaining seven, such as Right Thought, are considered merely limbs because they are its assistants. In order to clarify the meaning of the Eightfold Noble Path, an example is given: For example, a certain person, etc. A certain person refers to just any person. Having contracted a plague means having contracted a feverish disease. A doctor praised as skilled means one who is known in the world to be skilled in all medical texts. Having intelligence means having the key points of medical texts. Having seen work means that the medicines previously made were effective, and one is also skilled in the mutual combination of medicines, and has also done much work in compounding and administering medicines. Having heard the texts means having heard all the texts that should be used as medicine. Having gone to the presence means having gone to his presence. In order for the doctor to also examine the cause of the patient's illness, the doctor also first said to him, etc. The patient also told the doctor the cause of the illness, such as, "I ate yogurt and mustard," etc. After the doctor spoke of the cause of the illness, he said to take medicine. The doctor specifically distinguished and then prescribed medicine. Specifically distinguishing and prescribing medicine means: "You drank yogurt, ate mustard, and drank honey, which caused phlegm to increase, and therefore you have a fever. Therefore, you must pacify the increased phlegm, so do not eat tsampa today." After giving this instruction, he then prescribes a cooling medicine. After giving the example, he summarizes the meaning.

In order to establish. Similarly, it is said, "Afflicted by the great plague of truth, etc.," truth refers to the desire to understand the four noble truths of suffering, origin, cessation, and path, which have not been understood. This is called "afflicted by the great plague of truth, etc." "Virtuous ones" refers to those who wish to realize the four noble truths, who in other lives relied on virtuous friends, accumulated merit such as upholding morality and listening, and who in this life also ask about the noble truths in order to pacify afflictions such as attachment, therefore they are virtuous. "Thus gone one" refers to having truly understood how the four noble truths abide, therefore it is the Thus Gone One. Or, just as the previous Thus Gone Ones abandoned all afflictions and went to the city of Nirvana, other Thus Gone Ones also abandoned all afflictions and went to the city of Nirvana, therefore they are Thus Gone Ones. "The great physician of sentient beings" refers to those who possess afflictions such as attachment and hatred, and those with mind and mental factors are called sentient beings. In order to pacify the diseases of attachment, hatred, ignorance, etc., of these sentient beings, he expounds the medicine of impurity, love, dependent origination, and the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, therefore he is the great physician. Why administer the medicine of afflictions to sentient beings? Therefore, "great compassion" is proclaimed, the Thus Gone Ones administer the medicine of afflictions because they possess great compassion. What is the difference between compassion and great compassion? It is said that great compassion surpasses compassion in seven aspects, these seven aspects are nature, aspect, object, ground, lineage, attainment of detachment, and saving and not saving. Among them, nature refers to the nature of not being angry and not being ignorant towards all sentient beings. Aspect refers to one suffering and two sufferings.
