It is just as it is said in the scriptures: 'In that place, names and forms, etc., are all ceased.' So, how is it profound? Those formations have ceased, and that cessation from the cessation of formations cannot be said to be different, nor can it be said to be not different. Why? If cessation becomes different from the formations, then the dharma of the cessation of formations would not become cessation. If cessation is not different from the formations, then it also becomes cessation. That would become the nature of affliction, therefore it is said that neither is the case. How is it explained by name? Those who use the worldly path to cut off afflictions, although they cease temporarily, will arise again later, so it is called the cessation of name. How is it explained by ultimate truth? Using the transcendental path to destroy afflictions from the root, once destroyed, they will not arise again, so it is called the cessation of ultimate truth. How is it incomplete? Obtaining the fruit of stream-enterer, obtaining the fruit of once-returner, obtaining the fruit of non-returner, these learners abandon afflictions, because they have not completely abandoned all afflictions, so it is called incomplete cessation. How is it complete? The non-learners obtain the fruit of Arhat, because they have abandoned all afflictions, so it is called complete cessation. How is it unadorned? The cessation of Arhats who are liberated by wisdom, because there is no distinction of the six superknowledges, so it is unadorned cessation. How is it adorned? From both aspects of meditation and wisdom, the cessation of Arhats who are liberated, because they possess the qualities of the three knowledges and the six superknowledges, etc., so it is called adorned cessation. How is it with remainder? Nirvana with the remainder of the aggregates not abandoned, because there is still a remainder of the aggregates. How is it without remainder? The remainder of the aggregates is completely nirvana, because even the aggregates have been abandoned. How is it explained by types? This
