The cause of destroying karma and afflictions is the Truth of the Path. Or, like entering a solitary monastery, in the solitary monastery of samsara, the fears of the three lower realms, etc., are the Truth of Suffering. The cause of the accumulation of fears, attachment to karma, is the Truth of Origin. The city without fear, Nirvana, is the Truth of Cessation. The cause of going to the city of Nirvana is the Truth of the Path. Or, all phenomena of result are the Truth of Suffering. All phenomena of cause are the Truth of Origin. Destroying the phenomena of result is the Truth of Cessation. Destroying the phenomena of cause is the Truth of the Path. Or, like a sprout, it is the Truth of Suffering. Like a seed, it is the Truth of Origin. The place free from the phenomena of the sprout is the Truth of Cessation. Destroying the phenomena of the seed is the Truth of the Path. Or, like a disease, it is the Truth of Suffering. Like the causes of diseases such as bile and phlegm, it is the Truth of Origin. Like being free from disease, it is the Truth of Cessation. Like medicine, it is the Truth of the Path. Or, like fire, possessing various torments of suffering is the Truth of Suffering. Like firewood, the cause of generating fire, it is the Truth of Origin. Like the extinguishing of fire, it is the Truth of Cessation. Like water, the cause of extinguishing fire, it is the Truth of the Path. Again, the Truth of Suffering is, because it produces various sufferings like an enemy, like an enemy it is the Truth of Suffering. Like a former enemy, it is the Truth of Origin. Because it is free from all harm of the three realms, like being free from the harm of an enemy, it is the Truth of Cessation. Like subduing an enemy, it is the Truth of the Path. Or, because it is the basis of all faults, like cloth it is the Truth of Suffering. Like dirt, it is the Truth of Origin. Like dirt being purified, it is the Truth of Cessation. Like water and bath oil, the cause of purifying dirt, it is the Truth of the Path. Or, like having the suffering of a son's debt, it is the Truth of Suffering. Like poverty, it is the Truth of Origin. Son's debt

Like learning is the truth of cessation. Like finding a treasure is the truth of the path. Or like being afflicted by the suffering of heat is the truth of suffering. The cause that produces the suffering of heat, like fire, is the truth of origin. Like being free from suffering is the truth of cessation. Medicine that relieves suffering, such as sandalwood and camphor, is the truth of the path. Or like a person who has taken poison experiencing the suffering of poisoning is the truth of suffering. Poison is like the truth of origin. Destroying poison is like the truth of cessation. Antidote is like the truth of the path. Or suffering is of two kinds: encountering the unpleasant and separating from the pleasant. It also harms two places: the place of the body and the place of the mind. The truth of origin is also of three kinds: craving, views, and karma. Among them, craving and views are the cause of being born in the three realms. Virtuous and non-virtuous karma is the cause of becoming happiness and suffering therein. Cessation is also of three kinds: for those who abide in views, that which arises from causes such as the view of self is the cessation of abandoning afflictions, and for those who abide in desire, the cessation of the nature of abandoning attachment to the five desirable qualities of the desire realm, and for those who abide in the desire for existence, the cessation of the nature of abandoning the afflictions of the form and formless realms. There are four paths: the path of joining, the path of seeing, the path of meditation, and the path of having done and knowing. Among them, the path of joining is the accumulation of diligence in abiding in discipline, being frugal in use, knowing moderation in food, and listening and thinking, etc., during the time of ordinary beings, and the four qualities of heat, peak, forbearance, and supreme mundane dharma, these four factors of definite emergence are the path of joining. At the time of attaining the fruit of stream-entry, seeing the four noble truths without error is the path of seeing. At the time of the once-returner and non-returner fruits, becoming accustomed to the truth that has been seen is the path of meditation.

is the path. In the state of the fruit of Arhatship, what I had to do, I have done; the burden is cast off; birth is exhausted; there is nothing else beyond this existence. Understanding this is the path of knowing what has been done. Alternatively, the order in which the noble truths are arranged is also the order in which yogis realize the noble truths, and the Blessed One also taught in this order. Whichever truth is realized first, that truth is taught first. Among them, the yogi first contemplates the truth of suffering, which is the root of various kinds of suffering that have become the result of karma and afflictions. The way of contemplation is that attachment arises to what suffering, by what one suffers, and the wish to be liberated from what suffering arises. What is suffering? The five aggregates are suffering. By what does one suffer? It is the five aggregates themselves that harm and cause suffering. From what does one wish to be liberated? One wishes to be liberated from suffering itself. Therefore, the truth of suffering is taught first. If one examines from where suffering arises, one sees that it arises from the cause of karma and afflictions. Therefore, the truth of the origin is taught after that. If one examines where that suffering ceases, one sees that it ceases when one attains the state of Nirvana. Therefore, the truth of cessation is taught after that. If one examines by what cause that cessation is attained, one sees that it is attained by practicing the Noble Eightfold Path. Therefore, the truth of the path is taught after that. For example, when a doctor begins to cure a patient's illness, it is like searching for the illness, the root of the illness, the absence of illness, and what medicine it is. When a doctor first begins treatment, he contemplates what the illness itself is. After that, he contemplates the root of the illness, from what the cause of the illness, such as food, arises. Then, he contemplates whether the illness can be cured, that is, he contemplates the absence of illness. After that, he contemplates what the medicine for that illness is. Similarly, in this sutra, the order of the truths is explained in conjunction with this order. How is it explained? For example, a doctor who possesses four limbs is suitable for a king who removes all suffering, becomes a cause for the king, and is called one of the kings of medicine.
