The nature of existence is the origin of suffering (Samudaya), because the suffering of samsara arises from the power of craving. To realize the state of Nirvana, accompanied by praise, is to see the Truth of Cessation (Nirodha), that is, to see cessation as peace and excellence, and thus to regard Nirvana as a virtue. The cause for attaining Nirvana is the Truth of the Path (Marga), because through the power of cultivating the path, Nirvana is manifested. Alternatively, the Four Noble Truths are taught to establish the results and causes of the mundane and supramundane realms. Among these, the result of mundane Dharma is the Truth of Suffering (Dukkha), and its cause is the Truth of Origin (Samudaya). The result of supramundane Dharma is the Truth of Cessation (Nirodha), and its cause is the Truth of the Path (Marga). Or, if considered from the perspective of direct realization, the Sutras only teach the Four Noble Truths. How so? By truly touching the aggregates (skandhas) with impermanence, etc., one touches them, that is, "Those who have not generated craving do not generate it, and those who do not generate it abandon it." Here, the aggregates are the Truth of Suffering (Dukkha), craving is the Truth of Origin (Samudaya), not generating what has not been generated and abandoning what has been generated is the Truth of Cessation (Nirodha), and truly touching with impermanence, etc., is the Truth of the Path (Marga). Or, it is said, "Those who contemplate the faults of all binding dharmas completely stop craving." Here, the dharmas that bind all aggregates of afflictions are the Truth of Suffering (Dukkha), craving is the Truth of Origin (Samudaya), the complete cessation of craving is the Truth of Cessation (Nirodha), and contemplating with faults is the Truth of the Path (Marga). Or, the Four Noble Truths are taught to show the dharmas to be known, abandoned, realized, and cultivated. Among these, the Truth of Suffering (Dukkha) is to be known, the Truth of Origin (Samudaya) is to be abandoned, the Truth of Cessation (Nirodha) is to be realized, and the Truth of the Path (Marga) is to be cultivated. Or, knowing the nature of the aggregates of grasping and completely knowing them, one should abandon attachment.

Thus it was said. The aggregates of clinging to it are the truth of suffering. Attachment is the truth of origin. Abandoning attachment is the truth of cessation. Manifest knowledge is the aggregate of the path of seeing, knowing impermanence and so on. Universal knowledge is knowing impermanence and so on on the path of meditation, this is the truth of the path. Then why? These noble truths, first the noble truth of suffering is taught, after that the truth of origin, then the truth of cessation, then the path, why is this order established in this way? The answer is: they are established in order according to the order of what is to be cultivated and what is coarse. The five aggregates are the place of various kinds of suffering, and are also manifest to all. Because it is clear, the truth of suffering is taught first. In this way, after seeing suffering, then one realizes what its cause is, so after that is the truth of origin. In this way, where will those aggregates of suffering cease, and if one thinks about it, if one is in peace, then suffering will cease, and for the sake of showing this, after that is the truth of cessation. In order to dispel the thought of how that cessation will be attained, after that the truth of the path is taught. Again, from beginningless samsara, the meaningless gatherings of birth, old age, etc. are the truth of suffering. The root of meaningless gatherings is the truth of origin. Destroying meaningless gatherings is the truth of cessation. Destroying the root of meaningless gatherings is the truth of the path. Again, like a burden is the truth of suffering. Taking a burden is the truth of origin. Abandoning a burden is the truth of cessation. Abandoning taking a burden is the truth of the path. Again, the aggregates of phenomena that cause universal bondage are the truth of suffering. Desire and so on that cause universal bondage are the truth of origin. Making universal bondage exhausted is the truth of cessation. Seeing the faults of the aggregates is the truth of the path. Again, the five destinies are the truth of suffering. Karma and afflictions are the truth of origin. The absence of destinies is the truth of cessation. Destinies
