Therefore, by repeatedly cultivating that perception, he transcends the proximity attainment of the realm of nothingness and the samadhi of unperfected intention, and enters into the fundamental samadhi of perfected action. Therefore, in other sutras, it is said that he completely transcends the realm of infinite consciousness and abides in the realm of nothingness, that is, abides in the realm of nothingness. If we differentiate, at the time of the proximity attainment samadhi of the realm of nothingness, it is completely the realm of infinite consciousness. What is called the realm of neither perception nor non-perception, perception is a thorn, perception is suffering, and non-perception is also ignorance. Therefore, abiding in the subtle realm of perception is called the realm of neither perception nor non-perception, and it itself is the cause and condition for being born in that place, therefore it is called the realm of neither perception nor non-perception. Its meaning is also that at the time of the realm of neither perception nor non-perception, it is born from the realm of nothingness. And how is that? It is like attachment, sickness, stinging, etc., one considers the perception of the realm of neither perception nor non-perception as having faults. By intending the perfected action of the realm of nothingness and the realm of neither perception nor non-perception, at the time of samadhi, having perception is also uneasy like suffering, and completely abandoning perception is also ignorance. Abiding in the perception born of wisdom, because one returns from the perception of the realm of nothingness, therefore, other sutras say that one abides in the realm of nothingness. He transcends the proximity attainment and the samadhi of perfected intention of the realm of nothingness and the realm of neither perception nor non-perception, and enters into the fundamental samadhi of perfected action. Therefore, the sutra says that he completely transcends the realm of nothingness and abides in the realm of neither perception nor non-perception. In the formless realm, because there is no characteristic of form, one cultivates by relying on mind-only, therefore the sutra says contemplation on mind-only.

Also, like the desire realm and the form realm, there is no order of places, but only distinguished by the difference of samadhi and the difference of long and short life. Therefore, the sutra says: 'The birthplaces of the formless gods are of four kinds.' The four kinds of birthplaces of the formless gods mentioned above are called the formless existence. Among them, the gods born in the infinity of space live for twenty thousand kalpas and then die. The infinity of consciousness is forty thousand kalpas. The nothingness is sixty thousand kalpas. The last is eighty thousand kalpas. The formless gods also die in the place where they enter samadhi, and then are born in that place, and there is no birth in other places. In the desire realm and the form realm, the kalpa is the mind relying on form. In the formless realm, the four aggregates of name rely on each other. Like trees with three spearheads against each other, they rely on each other. The four aggregates of name rely on each other, or the four aggregates of name rely on the root of feeling and the dharma of the same kind. The sign of obtaining the samadhi of the formless realm is: the thought of the body falling from the void arises in the mind. Refutation: Other sutras say that the karma that will obtain the fruit of the three realms in the future is called existence, but here it is said that the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm themselves are called existence, which contradicts other sutras. Answer: There is no fault in this, because although existence refers to karma, karma is the cause of producing future existence, and the three existences are the result of karma. Here, the name of the cause is added to the result, because the cause can cause production in the three realms, so the three existences are called existence, and there is no fault. In order to show birth, it is said 'existence-conditioned birth' and so on, meaning that birth arises from the cause of existence. The so-called 'which sentient being' refers to the sentient beings such as gods, humans, and animals.
