Merely holding hands brings joy. The gods of the Paranirmitavasavartin realm engage in intercourse with just a smile. The two, male and female, experience joy by simply laughing at each other. The gods of the Vasavartin realm engage in intercourse with just a glance. They experience joy by merely exchanging sidelong glances. The six gods of the desire realm, their sons and daughters, appear on the laps of their parents. The gods in the realm of the Four Great Kings appear as children of about five years old, adorned with clothes and ornaments. The gods of the Thirty-three appear as children of about six years old. The gods of the Yama realm appear as children of about seven years old. The gods of the Tushita realm appear as children of about eight years old. The gods of the Nirmanarati realm appear as children of about nine years old. The gods of the Paranirmitavasavartin realm appear as children of about ten years old. Therefore, to show the existence of form, it is said, "What is the existence of form?" The realms of the existence of form are seventeen, and there are four concentrations (dhyanas). The first dhyana has three, the second has three, the third has three, and the fourth has eight, making seventeen in total. The three realms of the first dhyana are the Brahmaparisadya, the Brahmapurohita, and the Mahabrahma. The three realms of the second dhyana are the Parittabha, the Apramanabha, and the Abhasvara. The three realms of the third dhyana are the Parittasubha, the Apramanasubha, and the Subhakrtsna. The eight realms of the fourth dhyana are, starting with the Anabhraka, which include the Anabhraka, Punyaprasava, and Brhatphala. These three are the abodes of ordinary beings. The five above these are the abodes of the noble ones. The Brahmaparisadya are so called because they are born from vast roots of virtue, hence "Brahma." Those born into the retinue of that Brahma, or who are his attendants, are called Brahmaparisadya. Some explain that they are called Brahmaparisadya because they belong to the retinue of the Great Brahma. Their lifespan lasts for half a kalpa before they die. Their body size is half a yojana. The Brahmapurohita are so called because they assist Brahma like ministers and are born into that retinue, hence "Brahmapurohita." Because other Brahmas dwell like inner attendants, and when arising from meditation, they go before and perform service, they are called Brahmapurohita.

Because they pray with folded hands before Brahma or Mahabrahma, they are called those who pray before Brahma. Their lifespan is one kalpa, and then they pass away. The size of their bodies is one krosha. Those called Mahabrahmas are so called because, compared to the two Brahmas, their lifespan, color, and power are more prominent. Or, because they are more excellent than others, born from great roots of virtue, and are supreme, they are called Mahabrahmas. They attain a special distinction in meditation more than ordinary people, are born before all others, and die last, so they are Mahabrahmas. Their lifespan is two and a half kalpas, and then they pass away. The size of their bodies is two and a half kroshas. Those called Lesser Light are so called because, compared to the two above them, the radiance and light from their bodies are smaller, so they are Lesser Light. Their lifespan is two kalpas, and then they pass away. The size of their bodies is two kroshas. Those called Immeasurable Light are so called because their light and radiance cannot be measured or limited by any measure, so they are Immeasurable Light. Their lifespan is four kalpas, and then they pass away. The size of their bodies is four kroshas. Those called Radiant are so called because they illuminate other places with their splendor and light, not just their own place, so they are Radiant. Their lifespan is eight kalpas, and then they pass away. The size of their bodies is eight kroshas. Those called Lesser Virtue are so called because virtue in this context refers to the happiness of the mind arising from meditation, which is called virtue. Compared to their own place, the happiness of the mind is smaller compared to the places above, so they are Lesser Virtue. Their lifespan is sixteen kalpas, and then they pass away. The size of their bodies is ten kroshas. Those called Immeasurable Virtue are so called because their virtue cannot be measured, so they are Immeasurable Virtue, or because they possess immeasurable happiness of mind, so they are Immeasurable Virtue. Their lifespan is thirty-two kalpas, and then they pass away. The size of their bodies is also thirty-two kroshas. Those called All-Virtuous are so called because they are all-virtuous, the happiness of their minds is completely perfect, or because they have no other happiness that makes them superior, so they are All-Virtuous. Their lifespan is six
