Therefore, it is called the feeling of the mind. How does the third feeling, which is beyond the feelings of pleasure and pain, and is neither pleasure nor pain, manifest? It is said that it is manifested through scripture and reasoning. The scripture says, "Pleasure, pain, and neither pleasure nor pain." It also says, "Having abandoned pleasure and pain, one is in a state of mindfulness that is neither pleasure nor pain." etc. Because it is said so. Reasoning also exists, because it is impossible for a mind to arise that is separate from feeling. When one has not experienced the feelings of pleasure and pain, one has self-awareness of the nature of neither pleasure nor pain in all feelings. Therefore, the desire realm possesses all three feelings. The first and second dhyanas of the form realm possess both feelings of pleasure and equanimity. From the third dhyana of the form realm up to the peak of existence, there is only the feeling of equanimity. In order to show craving, it is said that craving arises from the cause of feeling. Craving refers to attachment, infatuation, desire, and intense desire, which are all synonyms. Attachment to the six objects such as form is called craving. Craving is like drinking salt water, even if one constantly enjoys the enjoyment of craving, one will never be satisfied, this is craving. Just as a moth is attached to the form of fire in a place of destruction, in the same way, the impure nature is attached to the lost place, and men and women are attached to each other's bodies, this is called craving for form. Just as a deer is attached to song, being attached to various kinds of sounds, this is called craving for sound. Just as an impure bee clings to an impure smell, being attached to various kinds of smells, this is called craving for smell. Just as a pig is attached to various kinds of impure tastes, being attached to various kinds of tastes, this is called craving for taste. Just as a mustard oil container is attached to the touch of mustard oil, being attached to touches such as softness and roughness, this is called craving for touch.

Oh! Having previously enjoyed the merits of the five desirable qualities, wishing to encounter the past, wishing to quickly associate with the future, being attached to the taste of worldly contemplation, and clinging to various kinds of inverted views, this is called craving for Dharma. In summary, it is attachment to external objects, attachment to internal objects, and attachment to views. Among these, attachment to external objects is attachment to the merits of the five desirable qualities. Attachment to internal objects is attachment to the five aggregates of clinging. Attachment to views is attachment to the view of permanence, the view of annihilation, and so on. In order to rely on grasping, grasping arises from the condition of existence. What is grasping? This question is mentioned, and the number is indicated by "four fours." Furthermore, since it causes existence to be closely grasped, it is called grasping, or since it does not abandon and holds onto the stream of mind of desire and views, it is called grasping. Alternatively, the meaning of wood is the meaning of grasping, and it is called grasping in order to ignite the fire of karma. Just as firewood causes fire to burn, the firewood of afflictions causes the fire of beings' karma to burn. The meaning of grasping is like that. Alternatively, the meaning of grasping is the meaning of entanglement, just as a silkworm wraps its body with silk, being bound by the bonds of afflictions, becoming an obstacle to liberation, this is grasping. In order to show the detailed distinctions, "desire grasping" and so on are mentioned. Whatever clings to the five desirable qualities of the desire realm and does not abandon them, this is desire grasping. The so-called "view grasping" is clinging to the view of permanence, the view of annihilation, and conceit of views, and not abandoning them, this is view grasping. The so-called "ethical discipline and asceticism grasping" is hoping to become a human or a god or Indra or Brahma, and holding onto wrong precepts and asceticism in order to desire these, this is ethical discipline and asceticism grasping. The so-called "self-assertion grasping" is clinging to the view of the collection of aggregates and not abandoning it, this is self-assertion grasping. Desire grasping gives rise to the suffering of the desire realm.
