Here it is said that one producing another appears as sentient beings. Here, the nature of the twelve links of dependent origination in a moment is explained, because beginners, upon hearing that there are twelve links in a single moment, cannot comprehend it. Therefore, for their benefit, the Blessed One explained the continuous meaning. Alternatively, the thought associated with discomfort is sorrow. Uttering words such as "Alas!" at the time of death is lamentation. The discomfort associated with the aggregate of the five consciousnesses is suffering. Discomfort with consciousness is displeasure. Exhaustion and collapse of body and mind arising before sorrow and lamentation is called disturbance. "Thus" refers to the words spoken above. Because the continuation of suffering from beginningless time in samsara is endless, and because it is a collection of suffering, it is called the great mass of suffering. Because there is no self or what belongs to self, it is unique. "Will arise" means to arise in that way. Reversing from the order is to show the nature of complete purification. It is said that with the cessation of ignorance, actions cease, and so on. Among these, the two ways of conforming to the order and reversing from the order are shown, because some people, not seeing the arising of existence, cling to annihilation. To avoid this, conforming to the order is spoken. Some people clearly cling to permanence, and in order to eliminate not seeing the nature of the cessation of existence, reversing from the order is spoken. Thus, bondage and liberation are shown through the two paths of universal defilement and complete purification. Among these, just as there is no darkness when a lamp appears, the arising of wisdom that sees the outer and inner phenomena as impermanent, suffering, impure, and without self is called the cessation of ignorance. For example, just as there is no smoke without fire, after the cessation of ignorance, actions that have not been done will not manifest. Those who begin to act cannot act because they have no help. With the cessation of ignorance, actions cease, for example,

Just as one person cannot drag a large tree alone. For example, without a field, there is no support for the seed, and the seed cannot exist. Similarly, without distinction, there is no support for consciousness, so consciousness will also disappear. When formations (འདུ་བྱེད།) cease, consciousness (རྣམ་པར་ཤེས།) ceases. For example, if a seed is burned, it will not sprout. If the mind is burned and destroyed by the wisdom of consciousness, the sprout of name and form (མིང་དང་གཟུགས།) will not arise. When consciousness ceases, name and form cease. Alternatively, three sticks stand with their tips touching, and if one stick is not there, the other two sticks cannot stand. Similarly, consciousness is also the support of name and form. Without consciousness, name and form cannot exist, therefore when consciousness ceases, name and form cease. For example, without a mirror, the clarity of the mirror will not appear. Similarly, without name and form, the clarity of name and form, such as the eye's sense base (སྐྱེ་མཆེད་།)—form and light, etc., will not appear. When name and form cease, the six sense bases For example, without a wall, the painting will collapse. Similarly, if the six sense bases, which are the support, do not exist, the contact (རེག་པ།) that depends on them will also disappear. When the six sense bases cease, contact ceases. For example, if the source of copper, etc., is exhausted and disappears, the substances to be produced will also not be produced. Similarly, if the source of feeling—contact—does not exist, feeling (ཚོར་བ།) will not arise. Therefore, when contact ceases, feeling ceases. For example, without a lamp, light will not appear. Similarly, without feeling, attachment (ཆགས་པ།) will not arise. At this time, when feeling ceases, craving (སྲེད་པ།) ceases. If the first child is not born, the later children will not grow up, will not become adolescents and adults, etc. Similarly, if there is no craving, its growth and expansion—grasping (ལེན་པ།)—will not arise. When craving ceases, grasping ceases. For example, without wood, there is no fuel for fire, and fire will not arise. Similarly, if there is no cause of karma—afflictions, karma will not manifest. When grasping ceases, becoming (སྲིད་པ།) ceases. For example, if the root of disease is eliminated, the disease will disappear. Similarly, for the root of birth,
