Great elements being disturbed, harming the body is suffering. At that time, harming the mind is seeking. Remembering the harm done by enemies, etc., thinking of not retaliating the harm, the body and mind being harmed, this is called disturbance. Thus, saying that this great heap of suffering arises solely, as previously said, from ignorance to old age and death, it is merely a great collection of suffering. Without self, etc., it arises solely, as said. Refutation: Not pointing out the cause of ignorance, then samsara has a beginning; not pointing out the result of old age and death, then samsara has an end. Or other limbs must be explained, because one must say that other one of that, that other one of that, there will be the fault of endlessness, therefore it is also not permissible to say twelve limbs. Saying: Thus, the Bhagavan has already explained the meaning of no beginning and no end in this dependent origination. How is it? Afflictions arise from afflictions, that is, grasping arises from the cause of craving; afflictions arise from karma, that is, formations arise from the cause of ignorance; existence arises from the cause of grasping; suffering arises from karma, that is, consciousness arises from the cause of formations; birth arises from the cause of existence. Suffering arises from suffering, that is, name and form arise from consciousness; the six sense sources arise from contact; old age and death arise from birth. Afflictions also arise from things, that is, craving arises from feeling. Because the Bhagavan has thus proclaimed the principle of the limb of craving, therefore, ignorance also arises from afflictions or other things, therefore there is no beginning from birth. Afflictions or things also arise from the thing of old age and death, therefore there is also no end, there are also no limbs, and it is not necessary to say others, it is established. Some Sutra schools say that improper attention is the cause of ignorance, and ignorance is also the cause of improper attention, as explained above.

The arising of afflictions from afflictions, and the arising of afflictions from others, etc., are already included in the way of showing, so there is no separate explanation. Or, in the Abhidhamma texts, what is dependent origination? The answer is: all conditioned dharmas. Dependent origination is explained in two ways, namely, showing as sentient beings and showing as non-sentient beings. Why does this sutra only explain showing as sentient beings? Similarly, in the Jnanaprasthana texts, dependent origination is shown as two types: the nature of continuity and the nature of momentariness. Among them, the nature of continuity is the same as what was said earlier, such as ignorance conditioning actions. The nature of momentariness is that the twelve links of dependent origination arise in one moment. How does it arise? For example, when the lives of beings are cut off due to the power of attachment, the ignorance of karma and the ripening of karma is ignorance. At that time, whatever aggregates arise from the mind are actions. At that time, the six consciousnesses, such as eye consciousness, which individually focus on objects, are consciousness. The four aggregates, such as feeling, that arise simultaneously with consciousness, as well as the four great elements, and the forms that have changed from the four great elements, are name and form. The six sense faculties, such as the eye, which rely on name and form, are the six sense bases. Seeing the objects of the six sense bases is contact. At the time of contact, experiencing happiness or suffering is feeling. At that time, attachment to flesh and skin is craving. Other dharmas that arise simultaneously with it and are entangled by afflictions are grasping. At that time, the mental karma produced by grasping is existence. The arising of those dharmas, such as moving the hands and feet, is birth. After that, the transformation of nature and maturation is aging. The destruction of those dharmas is death. In short, the explanation of this sutra is meaningful, and there is no fault even if it does not explain the dependent origination that does not show sentient beings. Because some Vinaya texts are for eliminating the ignorance of entering and reversing from samsara, therefore, ignorance conditioning actions, etc., are cause and effect.
