High and low, shadow and sunlight, light and darkness, clouds and smoke, dust and concavity, without cover, are various manifestations. What is the auspicious realm of the eye? That which relies on the realm of the eye, takes form as its object, and is able to know the various forms of color. If a form is blue, it will arise in the form of blue and know that it is blue. What is the realm of the ear? That which becomes the basis of the consciousness of the ear. At that time, the fine particles are as clear as crystal, able to capture sounds, and reside within the ear like a snail shell. What is the realm of sound? That which becomes the object of the realm of the ear. That is, pleasant, unpleasant, and neither of the two; produced from the cause of the great elements with grasping, produced from the cause of the great elements without grasping, and produced from the cause of both; commonly known in the world, produced from accomplishment, universally constant, the expression of the noble ones, and the expression of the non-noble ones. Among these, that which is beneficial to the ear faculty and consciousness, and makes one feel comfortable, is called pleasant. That which is harmful to the ear faculty and consciousness, and makes one feel pain, is called unpleasant. That which does not affect both the faculty and consciousness is called neither pleasant nor unpleasant. The three, such as those produced from the four great elements with grasping, are as previously explained. The action is unpleasant. That which is commonly known in the world is related to the language of the world. That which is produced from accomplishment is what the noble ones have said. That which is universally constant is what the heretics have said. For what is seen and so on, first saying "I have seen," "I have heard," "I have known" is the expression of the noble ones. The opposite of that is called the expression of the non-noble ones. What is the realm of ear consciousness? That which relies on the realm of the ear, takes the realm of sound as its object, and is able to know the various characteristics of sound. What is the realm of the nose? That which becomes the basis of the consciousness of the nose. Its fine particles are as clear as crystal, able to capture smells, and are located on the upper part of the nostril like an open bean pod.

It exists. Some say it is concave like a spoon and located at the end of the upper palate. What is the realm of smell? It is the object of the nose consciousness. That is, there are fragrant, non-fragrant, equal smells, co-arising smells, mixed smells, and completely transformed smells. Among them, fragrant smells, etc., are as previously described. Co-arising smells are like sandalwood, etc. Mixed smells are like styrax, etc., which are made of many substances, and are the smells of incense. Completely transformed smells are like the smells of fully ripened fruits, etc. What is the realm of nose consciousness? It is based on the realm of the nose, focusing on smell, and thus knowing the nature of smell. What is the realm of the tongue? It is the basis of tongue consciousness. Its fine particles are as clear as crystal, able to taste, and shaped like a half-moon. It covers the tongue, except for an area in the center of the tongue about the size of a hair tip. If it were to cover the tongue completely, the brain would age from constantly tasting leakage, and appetite would always be disturbed. What is the realm of taste? There are six types, and their characteristics are as previously described. What is the realm of tongue consciousness? It is based on the realm of the tongue, focusing on taste, and thus knowing sour, sweet, etc. What is the realm of the body? It is the basis of body consciousness. Its fine particles are as clear as crystal, covering the entire body like skin, and able to perceive touch. What is the realm of touch? There are eleven types, namely the four great elements, smoothness, roughness, lightness, heaviness, coldness, hunger, and thirst. Among them, the characteristics of the four great elements have already been described. The elements of fire and water are mostly smooth. The elements of earth and wind are mostly rough. The elements of earth and water are mostly heavy. The element of wind is mostly light. The elements of fire and water are mostly soft. The elements of wind and water are mostly cold. From the elements of fire and wind being abundant, if the stomach opens, hunger and thirst arise. The realm of body consciousness is: based on the realm of the body, focusing on touch, and thus knowing the characteristics of touch.
