I shall arise. It is for the sake of arising with ease and becoming unlazy. The antidotes to the remaining four faults are to apply the four abandonments in sequence. The antidote to uttering instructions is mindfulness. The antidote to sinking and excitement is vigilance; whenever sinking and excitement arise in the mind, vigilance recognizes it. The antidote to non-application is attention, which eliminates any sinking and excitement. The antidote to application is equanimity. Whenever one desires to waver, one remains unwavering. Thus, in order to abandon the five faults, meditating with the eight abandonments is called the miraculous foot endowed with the abandonment of desire-concentration. In order to rely on meditating that desire-concentration is also in accordance with the four noble truths, it is taught, "Abiding in solitude" and "Abiding in detachment," and so forth. Among these, when seeing the object of suffering in the truth of suffering, one desires to separate from it, therefore, when abiding in the truth of suffering, it is called abiding in solitude. The truth of origin is the nature of desire and craving, and it is to be abandoned, therefore, when focusing on it, it is called abiding in detachment. Cessation is the abandonment of all suffering, therefore it is bliss, and when focusing on it, it is called abiding in cessation. The truth of the path is what actualizes the truth of cessation and abandons all suffering, and when focusing on it, it is called dedicating to complete abandonment. In order to show that meditation should also be cultivated in a way that completely abandons the causes of mental contraction and distraction, which are discordant with desire, and so forth, it is taught, "May my desire not be too attached or reified," and so forth. Among these, the cause of mental contraction is that due to the lack of superior insight, the mind is controlled by sleep, drowsiness, and laziness, therefore it contracts and sinks. Since that is also to be abandoned, it is taught, "May my desire not be too weak." The cause of mental distraction is

Due to the lack of awareness of purity, the mind is distracted by objects through clinging to the characteristics of purity, etc. Therefore, it is taught not to cling, because this is what should be abandoned. The antidote to these two is to cultivate insight meditation in order to abandon the disheartened and weak mind. To abandon mental wandering and clinging, cultivate calm abiding or contemplate the impurity of the body. To show the second limb of magical power, it is said, "Having the samadhi of diligence, and the activity of abandoning," and so on. Whenever, in order not to generate unwholesome and unwholesome dharmas that have not arisen, to abandon those that have arisen, to generate wholesome dharmas that have not arisen, and to increase those that have arisen, diligence is continuous, and constantly initiated, the mind is focused on one point, this is called the samadhi of diligence. Having the activity of abandoning, etc., is as previously stated. To show the third limb of magical power, it is said, "Having the samadhi of mind, and the activity of abandoning," and so on. Whenever, relying on the seeds of samadhi cultivated in previous lives, one cultivates samadhi in this life, and by cultivating here, the power of the previous lives is greater, and the power of the later lives is greater, relying on the growth of the seeds of samadhi, without needing effort, the mind is focused on one point, this is called the samadhi of mind. Other things should also be observed as mentioned above. To show the fourth limb of magical power, it is said, "Having the samadhi of investigation, and the activity of abandoning," and so on. Whenever, for the dharmas taught by others, one can thoroughly distinguish the nature of the dharmas, free from doubt, and the mind becomes focused on one point, this is called the samadhi of investigation. Or, for the meaning of the object to be meditated upon, one analyzes and searches, thereby obtaining it, and the mind remains focused on it, this is called the samadhi of investigation. Other things should also be observed as mentioned above. Here also, it is established in five aspects: object, nature, companion, practice, and the fruit of practice. Among them, the object of the feet of magical power is the object of samadhi, or...
