Furthermore, the four things—my basis, the things I enjoy, the things that are myself, and the things that defile and purify me—should be taken as the objects of mindfulness. Among these, my basis is the body. The things I enjoy are feelings. The things that are myself are the mind. The things that defile and purify me are phenomena. So, how should one meditate on them? Most children, whose minds are inverted, consider the body (including the senses) as the basis of "I" and enjoy pleasure and so on. But the "I" that enjoys in this way is actually the mind. This "I" is defiled by afflictions such as desire, and it also becomes purified by faith and so on. In order to understand this, one should meditate on and abide in the body and so on. What is its nature? It is wisdom and calm abiding. Saying "following the body" means saying wisdom. Saying "having mindfulness and abiding" means indicating calm abiding. The companions are the mind and mental factors that are associated with it. Because wisdom and calm abiding cannot arise alone, they must be associated with other mental factors such as diligence. Meditation means becoming familiar with the self-characteristics and general characteristics of the body, both internally, externally, and both internally and externally. The fruit of meditation is abandoning the four inversions, entering the peaceful truth, and becoming separated from the body and so on. Among these, the four inversions are: impurity, pleasure, permanence, and self. In order to abandon the inversion of perceiving impurity as purity, one should meditate on body mindfulness. The Blessed One said that for the body, one should mainly meditate on the characteristic of impurity. In order to abandon the inversion of perceiving suffering as pleasure, one should meditate on feeling mindfulness. Because the Blessed One said that all feelings are related to the three kinds of suffering. In order to counteract the inversion of perceiving impermanence as permanence, one should meditate on mind

Meditate on the mindfulness of the body, because this mind changes into other forms with desire and without desire in each moment. In order to abandon the perverted view of grasping at self in what is without self, meditate on the mindfulness of the Dharma, because desire and so on will completely afflict it, and faith and so on will only completely purify it. If one understands that this is the agent of complete affliction and complete purification, and that it is without self, then one will be separated from the perverted view of grasping at self. Entering the Four Noble Truths, by meditating on the mindfulness of the body, one enters the Truth of Suffering, because if one sees the nature of the body, one will realize that it is endowed with various sufferings such as birth, old age, sickness, and death. By meditating on the mindfulness of feelings, one enters the Truth of the Origin, because craving arises dependent on pleasant feelings, hatred arises from the cause of painful feelings, and ignorance arises from the cause of feelings that are neither pleasant nor painful. One realizes that from the causes of desire, hatred, and ignorance, the aggregates of future lives will arise. By meditating on the mindfulness of the mind, one enters the Truth of Cessation, because if one sees the nature of the mind disintegrating in each moment, as the characteristic of being without self, then self will be cut off from Nirvana, so that disintegration will not occur. By meditating on the mindfulness of the Dharma, one enters the Truth of the Path, because having seen the two aspects of complete affliction and complete purification, in order to abandon complete affliction, one relies on the Dharma of complete purification. Separation is by meditating on the body and so on, in order to be separated from all evil destinies. Another explanation is that most worldly people do not truly understand the five aggregates as merely aggregates or merely dharmas, therefore, in order to prevent the clinging to the belief that the self exists in the body, experiences pleasure and pain, which completely afflicts it, and that it is completely purified and completely afflicted by Dharma and non-Dharma, therefore, one meditates on mindfulness.
