The feeling of pleasure, etc., that arises from something that is not included in the category of sentient beings is an external feeling. The feeling of pleasure, etc., that arises from focusing on the body of other sentient beings, which are included in the category of sentient beings, is an internal and external feeling. If one sees all three feelings as being related to suffering, then that is contemplating feeling in feeling and establishing mindfulness. The three sufferings are the suffering of suffering, the suffering of change, and the suffering of conditioned existence. Among these, the feeling of suffering is related to the suffering of suffering. The feeling of pleasure, although temporarily felt as pleasure, later becomes a source of suffering, and is therefore related to the suffering of change. The feeling that is neither pleasure nor pain is related to the suffering of conditioned existence because it possesses the nature of impermanence. The meaning of clarity, etc., should be observed as explained above. Regarding the internal mind, etc., if the mind is divided, there are twenty types: mind with desire, mind without desire, mind with hatred, mind without hatred, mind with delusion, mind without delusion, contracted mind, distracted mind, shrinking mind, elevated mind, agitated mind, unagitated mind, peaceful mind, unpeaceful mind, very concentrated mind, not very concentrated mind, mind practicing the path, mind not practicing the path, mind liberated from practice, and mind not liberated from practice. Among these, that which is completely entangled by desire and manifestly engaged with an object to be desired is called mind with desire. That in which desire is only latent and not actually engaged is called mind without desire. That which is completely entangled by hatred and manifestly engaged with an object of hatred is called mind with hatred. That in which hatred is only latent and not actually arisen is called mind without hatred. In general,

The phenomenon of being ignorant of things that have become foolish arises universally, and this is called the mind associated with foolishness. When foolishness remains only in a latent state, it is called the mind separated from foolishness. These six types of minds should be understood as arising during times of universal activity. Among them, three are on the side of complete affliction, and three are on the side of their antidotes. Among them, when the mind abides inwardly in the manner of calm abiding, it is the collected mind. Following after the five desirable qualities is the distracted mind. Being associated with sleep and drowsiness is the dejected mind. Focusing on certain things that cause great joy in order to dispel sleep and drowsiness, thereby making the mind happy, is the elated mind. When the mind becomes distracted again from being elated, it is the agitated mind. Having abandoned dejection and agitation, when the mind becomes equanimous, it is the mind without agitation. Being free from obscurations such as sleep, drowsiness, regret, and doubt is the peaceful mind. Not being free from these obscurations is the unpeaceful mind. Entering into the four root dhyanas is the mind of extreme samadhi. Not entering into the four root dhyanas is the mind of non-extreme samadhi. Having intensely cultivated these very root dhyanas and having become empowered at will through cultivating them for a long time, this is the mind of the path of intense cultivation. Even though one has attained the root dhyanas, but has not cultivated them intensely, and has not become empowered at will through not cultivating them for a long time, this is the mind of the path of non-intense cultivation. Through the path of intense cultivation, all afflictions are purified, and being extremely purified is the mind liberated through intense cultivation. When all afflictions and certain afflictions that are not extremely purified are purified, this is the mind not liberated through intense cultivation. These sixteen minds should be understood as being spoken of in terms of the time of their existence. These twenty minds, if summarized briefly, are of three types: the inner mind, the outer mind, and the inner and outer mind. Among them, the twenty minds that arise from categorizing my body as belonging to sentient beings and taking that as an object of focus are called the inner mind. Forms and so on categorized as sentient beings
