is to focus the mind on the object of attention. To guard mindfulness is, first, to restrain the senses and the mind from entering external objects; to ensure that no afflictions arise from external objects, and even if they do enter external objects, not to grasp forms, etc., as signs, not to grasp them as beautiful. To focus the mind on the object of attention is to focus the mind single-pointedly on the object being meditated upon. The phrase "observing the body in the body internally" refers to using wisdom to observe one's own body, which belongs to the category of sentient beings' forms, and understanding its own characteristics and general characteristics. This is called "observing the body in the body internally." The body's own characteristic is that it is composed of the accumulation of many tiny particles, filled with various impure substances such as mucus, saliva, blood, pus, etc. When meditating in this way, one should also clearly see with the power of antidotes and abide by abandoning unfavorable factors. There are two ways. Among them, the antidote is to see the body's own characteristics with wisdom, to see the body's general characteristics with wisdom, and to single-pointedly abide in tranquility and insight on the Dharma seen with wisdom in this way. There are also two unfavorable factors: attachment to the body and external objects such as forms, and anger towards them. To see the body's own characteristics as impure, etc., without error with wisdom is clarity. To see the body's general characteristics without error with wisdom is to truly know. To see the body's own characteristics and general characteristics with wisdom, not forgetting its meaning, and constantly focusing the mind of tranquility and insight on it is to be mindful. Abandoning attachment to the body and objects such as forms is to be free from worldly attachment, which is the opposite of cutting off mindfulness of the body. Cutting off hatred is called abandoning unpleasantness. Meditate by abiding as described above. When the external body, i.e., forms, etc., that do not belong to the category of sentient beings, understands its own characteristics and general characteristics, this is called abiding by observing the body in the body externally. One's own

The intrinsic nature is the essence of accumulated subtle particles. The extrinsic nature is impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness. In order to clearly and correctly understand completely, it is also combined for this purpose. Those meanings should also be understood as explained again. The actions of other sentient beings, belonging to the category of sentient beings, realizing the intrinsic and common characteristics, is called observing the body in relation to the internal and external body. The intrinsic and common characteristics should also be understood as explained above. Among the internal feeling and external feeling, etc., what is feeling? For example, pleasure, pain, and neither pleasure nor pain. For pleasure, pain, and neither pleasure nor pain, there are also those related to the body, and similarly those related to the mind. Feelings, etc., pleasure also has defilement and non-defilement, depending on attachment and depending on arising. These are the detailed classifications of feeling. Among them, what brings coolness and benefit to the body and mind is the feeling of pleasure. What harms the body and mind and causes suffering is the feeling of pain. What neither benefits nor causes suffering to the body and mind is the feeling of neither pleasure nor pain. These three feelings, when associated with the five consciousnesses from eye consciousness to body consciousness, are related to the body. These three feelings, when associated with mind consciousness, are related to the mind. If the three feelings are in accordance with Nirvana, then they are without defilement. All feelings belonging to the three realms are with defilement. When it is in accordance with the noble path, then it depends on arising. Attachment to the five desirable qualities is called depending on attachment. Among them, the meanings of observation, mindfulness, and the establishment of mindfulness are all understood as explained in the chapter on the establishment of mindfulness of the body. Among them, taking one's own body as belonging to the category of sentient beings as the object, the arising of pleasure, pain, and neither pleasure nor pain is the internal feeling. Form, etc.
