It is said, "O monks," and so on. Those meanings have already been explained above. In order to conclude the teaching of the three meditations, it is said, "This is the practice of meditation," and so on. In short, in this sutra, in order to attain the supernormal knowledge of the divine eye, one should meditate on the perception of light. Because one meditates on the perception of light, one will attain the supernormal knowledge of the divine eye. Focusing on the exposition of the fourth meditation, it is said, "O monks," and so on. Wisdom also arises from the practice of the fourth meditation, and the fourth meditation is attained through physical seclusion and mental seclusion. Therefore, in order to achieve physical seclusion, it is said, "In a secluded place or under a tree," and so on. Because mental seclusion is necessary, it is said, "Having abandoned pleasure and also abandoned suffering," and so on. The meanings of those have already been explained above. In short, from the practice of the fourth meditation, which is free from the eight kinds of defilements, it becomes the cause for the arising of abundant qualities such as virtuous qualities with outflows and without outflows. Therefore, from practicing it, wisdom will also be greatly cultivated, so the practice of the fourth meditation is called "becoming thoroughly skilled in wisdom individually." It starts from the four mindfulnesses, and in order to gradually show the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment among the eightfold path, it is said, "O monks, what are the four mindfulnesses?" and so on. Among them, seven aspects of the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment are shown: the path of completely examining objects, the path with effort, the path of making meditation workable, the path of greatly combining with realization, the path of mixing with realization, the path of realization, and the path of definitely arising in complete purity. Among them, the path of completely examining objects is the four mindfulnesses, because at the very beginning, they contemplate the body, feelings, phenomena, and consciousness as impure, suffering, impermanent, and selfless objects.

And the path with is, the four right abandonments. Therefore, having examined all things in this way, in order to eliminate the obscurations beneath them, one initiates diligence. The path that makes samadhi workable is, the four legs of miraculous power. Therefore, having completely purified the obscurations, through desire, diligence, and mind, and through the gate of examination, one makes the mind and samadhi workable. The path that thoroughly joins with realization is the five faculties. Therefore, having made samadhi workable, it becomes the basis for seeing the four noble truths, and thoroughly joins with the heat and peak stages. The path that leads to realization is the five powers. Thus, at the stage of the faculties, having obtained the faculty of seeing the truth, beneath it, in order to realize the truth, one subdues the opposing factors that have become disbelief, laziness, loss of mindfulness, distraction, and perverse wisdom, and joins with patience and the supreme mundane dharma. The path of realization is the limbs of enlightenment. At that time, one directly realizes the noble truths for the first time. The path of purification and definite emergence is the eight limbs of the noble path. Beneath it, having abandoned the afflictions to be abandoned by the cultivation of the eight limbs of the noble path, having purified them, one emerges from samsara. For these meanings, the order of the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment is also arranged in this way. Alternatively, at the stage of an ordinary being, one cultivates the four mindfulnesses. At the stage of heat, one cultivates the four right abandonments. At the stage of the peak, one cultivates the four legs of miraculous power. At the stage of patience, one cultivates the five faculties. At the stage of the supreme mundane dharma, one cultivates the five powers. At the stage of the path of seeing, one cultivates the seven limbs of enlightenment. At the stage of the path of cultivation, one cultivates the eight limbs of the noble path, therefore the order is also arranged in this way. Monks, what are the four mindfulnesses? This is a question.
