This is a contemplation on obtaining the clairvoyant eye. Regarding this, as long as one has not received the essential instructions for meditation from another, meditation will not succeed. Therefore, in order to ensure that those who have received the essential instructions and keep their vows do not forget how to cultivate clairvoyance, the Bhagavan (Sanskrit: Bhagavān, Tibetan: བཅོམ་ལྡན་འདས་) taught, "The perception of light, extremely well-guarded," and so forth. The perception of light means contemplating that in all directions there is no darkness, and that it is pervaded by light. To guard the essential instructions for meditating on this perception, without letting it decline or be forgotten, is called "extremely well-guarded." To explain its distinction, "extremely attentive" and so forth are taught. Because a distinction of thought arises from meditating on the five aspects of the perception of light, it is said to be "extremely attentive" and "extremely close." Because it possesses the accomplishment of samadhi, it is called "completely understood," which means the manifestation of the clairvoyant eye. Alternatively, "extremely well-guarded" refers to guarding the essential instructions at the time of approaching them. "Extremely attentive" refers to thinking well at the time of contemplation. "Extremely close" refers to repeatedly practicing at the time of meditation. "Completely understood" refers to manifesting the fruit of samadhi. Alternatively, "extremely close" refers to those who have accomplished the clairvoyant eye of the worldly path, because they may later decline. "Completely understood" refers to obtaining the clairvoyant eye of the path beyond the world, because they will not decline later. What should be manifested? Therefore, it is taught, "Therefore, one should abide in the perception of daytime." The perception of daytime means to focus on the perception that is accompanied by light. To explain that meaning itself, it is taught, "One should meditate in the mind that is accompanied by light," which refers to the yogi who desires to obtain the clairvoyant eye. That yogi should meditate, even during the daytime, on being completely filled with light and without darkness. To explain that one should meditate on the perception of light equally during the day and night, it is taught, "Just as during the day, so too at night," and so forth. Just as during the day, meditate on being pervaded by light.

Similarly, at night, one should also contemplate the light shining everywhere. It shows that day and night are equally contemplated as the nature of light pervading. This sentence shows that one should contemplate the Samadhi of light shining at all times and places. Just as one contemplates at all times and places, in order to show that the concept of light should also be contemplated as pervading all directions, such as "the same as the front, the back," etc. Just as one sees the light pervading in front, one should also contemplate the back direction as light pervading, showing the contemplation of the front direction and the nature of light pervading. Alternatively, "front" refers to contemplating everything that is obviously obstructed by mountains, etc., as light pervading. Similarly, "back" refers to the place obstructed by mountains, etc., and one should also contemplate that there is no obstruction by mountains and walls, etc., and that the light shines clearly. Above refers to the direction where the sun rises in the sky. Below refers to the end below the great earth. Just as the upper direction is filled with the concept of being illuminated by the sun, it shows that one should also contemplate that all the lower directions are pervaded by the concept of light. In order to summarize and show the meaning of contemplating the concept of light, therefore it is said, "Thus, the mind is clear, without obstruction," etc. Thus, as mentioned above. The Samadhi of the accomplishment of the concept of light is the clear mind, because the concept of light has been accomplished, so the clear mind has no obstruction in all directions and times. It shows that one should abide in the light like the sun rising in the daytime, and contemplate the light pervading with the rays. In order to clearly show the meaning of contemplating the concept of light pervading with an example, therefore it is said, "For example," etc. The so-called last month of spring is to divide time into three types, namely spring, summer, and winter. Among them, spring has four months, summer also has four months, and winter also has four months. From the first month of summer to the second month, it is called the last month of spring, because at those times, the sunlight is particularly bright. In order to combine the example given with the meaning for explanation, therefore it is said, "Similarly."
