Recollection in the mind is called discrimination and expression of mind. Discrimination is also divided into mundane and supramundane. Mundane discrimination is when the mind is associated with mental factors. Supramundane discrimination arises from association with wisdom. After searching "What is this?", roughly and generally knowing "This is a vase" or "This is felt," this is called a coarse mind. What is examination? It is the expression of mind that individually discriminates. Similarly, what is a subtle mind? It is the same as before. The so-called subtle mind is when something previously roughly judged as a vase is now examined. For example, carefully determining the quality of the vase, whether the color is applied, the shape, and so on. What are the fourteen non-mental formations? The term "non-associated" refers to when the mind does not function during times of unconsciousness, cessation, fainting, deep sleep, and so on. Furthermore, when doing good, evil thoughts do not arise; when doing things like drawing and sewing without explanation, purely good thoughts do not arise; when doing evil, good thoughts do not arise, and so on, which are also called non-associated. Others can be inferred similarly. What are they? They are attainment, the meditative absorption of non-discrimination, the meditative absorption of cessation, non-discrimination, life force, similarity, birth, aging, abiding, impermanence, aggregates of names, aggregates of sentences, aggregates of letters, the state of being an ordinary being, and similar categories. Attainment means obtaining and possessing. That is, whether one performs virtuous, non-virtuous, or unspecified actions, the habitual imprint of the action that was not present before is created for the first time, which is called attainment. Thereafter, not separating from it but accompanying it is called possession. The meditative absorption of non-discrimination is when, having abandoned the desire for the increase of virtue, with the intention that precedes the arising of a realm that is not the upper realm, thereby ceasing the mind and non-manifest phenomena arising from the mind, this is called the place of great fruition above the third dhyana of the four dhyanas.

In order to attain it, blocking the six consciousnesses of the doors, and the associated perceptions, abiding in this is called the cessation of perception. Completely abandoning the faults of the third dhyana is called being free from the desire for virtuous increase. Because the abandonment of the faults of the fourth dhyana is not complete, it is called not being higher. Thinking that this place is liberation, is eternal nirvana, this is the arising of perception. Thinking that it should be attained, this is the previously initiated mental engagement. Mind is the six consciousnesses. Mental factors are perceptions and so on. Some of them arise, some do not arise, so it is called unstable, this is for their cessation. The samadhi of cessation is the detachment from the desire for the sphere of nothingness, going beyond the peak of existence, with the mental engagement initiated in advance by the perception of peaceful abiding, and the unstable dharmas of mind and mental factors, and some of the stable ones are what is called cessation, which is distinguished from the higher ones in four ways, namely, nature, person, ground, and mental engagement. Among them, the unconsciousness is the cessation of the six consciousnesses, and entering into the samadhi of cessation is the cessation of the seven consciousnesses, so there is a difference in nature. The person refers to entering into the noble ones beyond the non-returner, and the ordinary beings. The ground refers to the sphere of nothingness and virtuous increase. Mental engagement is distinguished by thinking that it arises forever, or that it abides in peace for a while. Among them, the sphere of nothingness is the third place of formless samadhi, and detachment from desire is detachment from its afflictions. Entering into abandoning the afflictions of neither perception nor non-perception is called going beyond the peak of existence. Abiding in this without reaching the end, although it is not eternal nirvana, it is similar to it and is pleasant, so thinking of abiding in it for a while, this is called the perception of peaceful abiding and the function of abiding in the mind initiated in advance. Mind and mental factors are the same as the above. Steadfastness refers to afflictions.

It refers to the mind and its retinue, and it refers to the cessation of the seven consciousnesses. Non-perception refers to the result of entering into the state of non-perception (Tibetan: འདུ་ཤེས་མེད་པའི་སྙོམས་པར་འཇུག་པ།), and it refers to the unstable minds and mental factors that are born among the gods of the non-perceptual realm (Tibetan: འདུ་ཤེས་མེད་པའི་སེམས་ཅན་ལྷ།) that are prevented. The result of entering into the state of non-perception (Tibetan: འདུ་ཤེས་མེད་པར་སྙོམས་པར་ཞུགས།) mentioned above is that in one direction of the gods of great fruit (Tibetan: འབྲས་བུ་ཆེ་བའི་ལྷ།), born among the gods of non-perception (Tibetan: འདུ་ཤེས་མེད་པའི་ལྷ།), initially there is perception, and then due to the force of previous actions, perception becomes increasingly subtle and eventually disappears, abiding like a special meditative state, which refers to the cessation of the six consciousnesses. The life force refers to the determination of the duration of the abiding of conditioned phenomena by the power of previous actions in similar beings, meaning the length of life, as long as one does not die, it is called the life force. Gods refer to those similar to gods, up to ants and other different beings, those internally similar are of the same kind. Those born by the power of previous virtuous and non-virtuous actions, the difference in lifespan, as short as a hundred or a thousand years, as long as a moment, whatever is possible by the respective shares of years, months, and days, is called the determined time of the abiding of conditioned phenomena. The same kind refers to the similarity of the bodies of sentient beings, referring to the internal similarity of humans, gods, and animals, etc., born in the five realms.
