The Treatise Called "A Memorandum on Categories of Dharma." Glorious Accumulation. The Treatise Called "A Memorandum on Categories of Dharma." Glorious Accumulation. The Text of "A Memorandum on Categories of Dharma" is Presented. The Treatise Called "A Memorandum on Categories of Dharma." Homage to all the Noble Assembly! Therefore, this so-called "Memorandum on Categories of Dharma" is a compilation of essential meanings and beautiful words from various scriptures such as the Sutras, Treatises, the Hundred Thousand Prajnas, and Yogācāra. It is taught so that those who are unable to listen to many teachings can understand the meaning of the scriptures with little effort and become proficient in the characteristics of the disintegration of their own bodies. That is, starting with questions such as "What is the Aggregate of Form?", it explains the definitions of the aggregates, elements, and sense bases as they appear in Yogācāra. Here, it mainly explains the meaning of what the Aggregate of Form is among the Five Aggregates. Regarding "Whatever form there may be, all of them are the four great elements and what is made from the four great elements," "Whatever form there may be, all of them" refers to all that can be designated as form, such as long, short, round, square, blue, yellow, past, future, and present forms, near, far, good, and bad. The four great elements are fire, water, earth, and wind. What is made from the four great elements means what is born or transformed from those elements, that is, the forms that arise from those causes, including the five sense faculties such as the eye, and the five objects of those faculties, from form to tangible objects, making ten, plus non-revealing form, making eleven, plus the four great elements, making fifteen in total. This is the general way of classifying the Aggregate of Form. Form has three aspects: visible and obstructive, invisible and obstructive, and invisible and non-obstructive. Among these, the characteristics of the four great elements, such as color and shape, are visible and obstructive. The sense faculties such as the eye

The five, namely sound, smell, taste, and touch, are invisible but obstructive. Non-manifest form is neither visible nor obstructive. That is manifest form and the four dhyanas. Because it arises from a material cause, it is established as form. The aggregate of form is characterized by such qualities. What is the aggregate of feeling? It is said that there are three kinds of experiences: pleasure, pain, and neither pleasure nor pain. Experiencing these three is called feeling. Among them, pleasure is what one desires to encounter when it ceases. This means that when happiness arises apart from the body and mind, one does not want to be separated from it, and even if separated, one wants to encounter it again. Pain is what one desires to be separated from when it arises. This means that when something harmful arises to the body and mind, one does not want to be associated with it, and therefore desires to be separated from it. Neither painful nor pleasant is what one does not desire either way when it arises. This means that because it does not harm the body and mind, one does not desire to be separated from it; and because it does not bring additional pleasure and benefit to the body and mind, one does not desire to be associated with or encounter it. This is what is meant by not desiring either way. What is the aggregate of perception? It is said that there are three ways of apprehending characteristics of objects: small, large, and immeasurable. Objects are the phenomena to be focused on, such as form and sound. Apprehending characteristics refers to distinguishing the many different features of color and shape. Small refers to focusing on the evil realms of the desire realm. Large refers to focusing on the form realm, from the first dhyana down to the fourth dhyana. Immeasurable refers to focusing on the formless realm, from the sphere of infinite space down to the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. What is the aggregate of formations? It is said that it refers to mental phenomena other than feeling and perception. This is because it arises from the assembly of many causes and conditions, so in general, everything included in the aggregates of form, etc., can be called formations. But here it refers to formations arising from the mind. Since feeling and perception have already been explained in the previous aggregates, it starts from contact, which is after excluding them.
